BYD has released new exterior and interior images of the Qin Max EV, a larger fast-charging sedan scheduled to launch in China in August. The model will sit above the Qin L in BYD’s Qin family and is being positioned as a new B-segment offering aimed at younger buyers.
As reported by Electrek, Lu Tian, general manager of BYD’s Dynasty series, said Qin Max vehicles have begun reaching dealerships before launch. Separate reporting from IT Home and CarNewsChina points to an August 13 debut, although BYD has yet to publish full specifications, trim details, or pricing.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filings put the Qin Max at 4,866 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, and 1,495 mm tall, with a 2,790 mm wheelbase. That makes it longer than a Tesla Model 3, though the Tesla retains a slightly longer wheelbase.
The official images show a conventional three-box sedan with BYD’s now-familiar closed front end, slim headlights, full-width rear lighting, and a cabin centered on a large touchscreen. Other visible equipment includes a compact digital driver display, wireless charging pad, two-spoke steering wheel, and a clean center console.
BYD is expected to offer both battery-electric and plug-in-hybrid Qin Max versions. Regulatory details indicate that the EV will be available with either a 120 kW or 240 kW electric motor, creating a broad spread between entry-level and higher-performance variants.
Those figures require compatible high-power charging infrastructure and should not be treated as typical results at every public charger. BYD has said it is expanding its Flash Charging network in China, but the real-world usefulness of the Qin Max will hinge on where those stations are deployed and how consistently the system performs outside ideal demonstrations.
CarNewsChina has reported 52.868 kWh and 64.315 kWh Blade Battery options, with claimed CLTC range ratings of 530 km and 630 km, respectively. As always, CLTC estimates are generally more optimistic than EPA figures familiar to U.S. EV buyers.
Pricing will determine whether Flash Charging becomes a premium feature or a meaningful advantage in a mainstream Chinese sedan. BYD’s full launch event in August should settle that question—and reveal whether the Qin Max’s charging technology is included across the EV range or reserved for its higher trims.
