A U.S. Cellular Model Is the Important Part
The “U” model suffix has historically been associated with Samsung hardware intended for the U.S. market. Earlier Galaxy Tab S12+ sightings used model numbers SM-X840 and SM-X846B for Wi‑Fi and international 5G configurations, respectively, according to reporting from 91mobiles and Android Authority. The newly listed SM-X848U fills in the more consequential domestic cellular version.
That matters because U.S. buyers have often faced limited choices for flagship Android tablets with native mobile data. A 5G Tab S12+ could provide always-connected DeX access, VPN connectivity, Remote Desktop sessions, and cloud-file access without depending on phone tethering or public Wi‑Fi.
Certification Is Not a Full Spec Sheet
FCC approval confirms radio hardware, not final retail specifications, pricing, carrier availability, or release timing. Samsung has not announced the Galaxy Tab S12 line or confirmed that SM-X848U will ship under the Tab S12+ name.
Notebookcheck says prior leaks have suggested a MediaTek Dimensity 9500-series processor, but that remains unverified. A Geekbench-related report from SammyGuru has also associated the SM-X848U identifier with the upcoming tablet, offering further support for the device’s identity but not a complete picture of its configuration.
The S12+ May Restore Samsung’s Middle Flagship Size
Reports around the emerging lineup point to a Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. If accurate, that would put a Plus model back at the center of Samsung’s flagship tablet strategy after the Galaxy Tab S11 generation reportedly consisted of standard and Ultra models.
For Windows-centric users, the key unanswered questions are less about benchmark scores than the practical details: which U.S. carriers will support the device, whether it will be sold unlocked, whether Samsung bundles an S Pen, and how aggressively the tablet supports multi-device features with Galaxy Book PCs and Windows 11.
The FCC appearance suggests Samsung’s U.S. launch preparations are underway, but a formal announcement later in 2026 is still the next milestone to watch.
