Qualcomm’s public battery-life case for Snapdragon C is now harder to evaluate, but the evidence does not cleanly support the claim that two headline results have vanished. Windows Central reported on August 20 that Qualcomm asked Tom’s Hardware to replace an earlier Snapdragon C comparison slide, removing claimed efficiency advantages for idle applications and web browsing. Yet the current Tom’s Hardware article and Qualcomm-linked presentation material still describe a 68% web-browsing efficiency lead over Intel’s N250.

That discrepancy is the news readers should take from the episode. Qualcomm has unquestionably changed material distributed to the press, and it has not published a complete explanation of what changed or why. But the public record currently supports a narrower conclusion than “Qualcomm erased two key battery claims”: the idle-app figure is no longer readily documented in the revised material, while the browser figure appears to remain part of Qualcomm’s stated benchmark case.

For prospective Windows 11 on Arm buyers, that leaves the central question unanswered. Snapdragon C may still deliver strong battery efficiency in entry-level laptops, but its advertised advantage is based on vendor-controlled comparisons, conducted on battery power, against one Intel N250 system—not independent tests of retail PCs.

Windows Central says Qualcomm originally supplied a slide that cited 39% better power efficiency while powering idle applications and 68% better efficiency during web browsing, both relative to Intel’s Processor N250. According to Windows Central, Qualcomm subsequently requested replacement slides and described the revision only as an effort to improve “clarity and relevance.”

The 39% idle-app figure is the claim that has most clearly disappeared from currently accessible reporting and product materials. Tom’s Hardware, which received Qualcomm’s detailed Snapdragon C briefing last week, now lists power-efficiency claims for Netflix playback in Microsoft Edge, web browsing, and Microsoft Teams video calls—but no idle-app metric. Qualcomm’s official Snapdragon C announcement also promises “all-day battery life” and responsive browsing, streaming, productivity, and video calls without putting a battery-life number behind those broad statements.

Web browsing is different. The current Tom’s Hardware report still says Qualcomm claims Snapdragon C is 68% more power-efficient than the Intel N250 in a web-browsing workload. Earlier coverage from VideoCardz and Hardwareluxx also recorded that same 68% claim from Qualcomm’s slide deck. Those outlets were reporting Qualcomm’s pre-release marketing data rather than independently repeating the test, but their accounts establish that the browser result was publicly circulated.

The inconsistency could have several mundane explanations. Qualcomm may have removed the browser result from one revised slide while preserving it in another; outlets may have received different revisions; or the company may have revised the layout and scope of its charts without withdrawing each underlying data point. The available evidence does not resolve which occurred. Qualcomm has not publicly said that the 68% browser number was erroneous, withdrawn, or superseded.

That is an important correction to the framing here: the idle-power claim has become unverified in Qualcomm’s current public case; the web-browsing claim has not been conclusively retracted. Qualcomm’s sparse explanation is still inadequate, especially after it sent the original presentation to journalists, but a changed slide is not automatically proof every value associated with it was invalid.


Qualcomm’s remaining comparison still has large limits​

The claims Qualcomm continues to stand behind are significant on paper. The company says Snapdragon C can provide 106% better battery power efficiency than the Intel N250 during Netflix playback in Edge, 68% better efficiency while web browsing, and 74% better efficiency during a Teams video call. It also says Snapdragon C delivers up to 44% higher single-core Geekbench performance, 24% higher multi-core Geekbench performance, and up to 67% higher multi-core Cinebench performance when both systems run on battery.

Those are Qualcomm measurements, not results from a review lab. The test setup matters at this end of the laptop market because a low-cost notebook’s screen, battery capacity, cooling design, memory configuration, storage, and firmware power limits can influence battery life as much as the processor itself.

Tom’s Hardware reports that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon C reference design had 8GB of RAM and used a 16-inch display. The comparison machine was an Acer TravelMate with an Intel N250 and 8GB of RAM, but with an 11.6-inch display. Qualcomm’s footnote says the Intel machine’s total power was configured to match a 16-inch screen. That adjustment may be reasonable in a controlled engineering comparison, but Qualcomm has not publicly supplied enough detail for buyers or independent reviewers to reproduce it: no full panel specifications, measured brightness, battery capacities, browser workflow, battery-life duration, Windows build, driver versions, or power-policy settings are available in the public presentation.

The company also has not provided plugged-in performance figures. That omission was already conspicuous before the slide revision because a laptop purchased for school, office tasks, browsing, and Teams calls will often be used both on and off the charger. A platform that prioritizes sustained unplugged efficiency can be attractive, but buyers still need to know whether its performance profile changes meaningfully when connected to AC power.

Qualcomm’s comparison target needs context as well. Intel’s N250 is a four-core entry-level processor aimed at inexpensive PCs. It is a plausible price-class competitor for a platform intended for Windows laptops starting around $300, but it cannot establish how Snapdragon C will compare with the broader set of budget Windows devices that reach store shelves later this year. Final pricing is also unsettled: Qualcomm’s launch announcement says systems are targeted at “$300 and up,” which is a platform objective rather than a promised street price for any particular Acer, HP, Lenovo, or Asus model.

The missing idle result matters more than it sounds​

An idle-power measurement can look trivial beside Cinebench, Geekbench, and video playback charts. For an inexpensive Windows laptop, it is arguably one of the more practical figures Qualcomm could publish. Budget systems often spend much of their time sitting in a browser tab, a Word document, a Teams chat, a school portal, or a cloud-sync session—not rendering a scene or encoding video.

It is also the part of the battery story most sensitive to the whole system. Modern standby behavior, background tasks, panel refresh rate, Wi-Fi power management, OEM utilities, and Windows configuration can shift low-load energy use considerably. A single “idle apps” percentage without a defined workload is difficult to interpret; it could mean an open application at rest, a set of background applications, a particular test suite, or something else entirely. Qualcomm should define it if it intends to use the result as a selling point.

The browser claim needs the same rigor. “Web browsing” is not a standardized experience unless the company identifies the browser, sites or scripted workload, refresh interval, network condition, screen brightness, and measurement method. Qualcomm’s use of Microsoft Edge in its Netflix comparison is relevant to Windows users, but it does not tell readers whether the browsing figure also used Edge, whether the pages were native Arm64 workloads, or whether browser extensions and web-app usage were part of the test.

Windows 11 on Arm has improved substantially for mainstream applications, and Snapdragon C’s eight-core Kryo CPU, Adreno GPU, LPDDR5/LPDDR5x support, Wi‑Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 6.0 make it a more credible budget PC platform than the old stereotype of an Arm laptop that cannot run ordinary software. But Snapdragon C is not positioned as a Copilot+ PC, and Qualcomm has not disclosed a TOPS rating for its Hexagon NPU. Its real pitch is simple: a cooler, quieter Windows laptop with usable everyday performance and a longer life away from a charger.

That pitch lives or dies on ordinary workloads. Qualcomm’s own May announcement explicitly named browsing, streaming, productivity, and video calls as Snapdragon C’s target use cases. Removing an unexplained low-load metric, then leaving conflicting public accounts over the web-browsing chart, damages confidence precisely where the platform needs clarity.

Retail laptops, not revised slides, will settle it​

The first Snapdragon C systems are expected from Acer, HP, Lenovo, and Asus, while Acer has already shown an Aspire Go 15 configuration with 8GB of memory and 512GB of storage. Qualcomm has not announced a final retail battery-life target, and OEMs have not yet established the configurations, prices, displays, or release dates that would let reviewers test comparable products.

Until those machines arrive, readers should treat every Snapdragon C percentage as a vendor claim and avoid treating the missing idle result as evidence of a broader performance failure. There is no public independent test demonstrating that Snapdragon C falls short of Qualcomm’s remaining numbers. There is also no adequate public explanation for why Qualcomm revised its material or why the browser claim appears absent in one account yet present in Tom’s Hardware’s current reporting.

The practical consequence is straightforward: Snapdragon C’s low-load battery story is less transparent than Qualcomm first presented it, and the safest purchase advice is to wait for battery rundown tests of shipping Windows 11 laptops at a known screen brightness and with documented configurations.
