    Windows 7 Clearing/Disabling recent history

I can't figure out how to clear or disable the recent history list for specific programs. I understand how to handle the "Recent Items" list, but many applications (excel, image viewers, etc) also show a list of recent documents they've opened. How can I either disable or clear these lists? Thanks.

Have you tried disabling UAC or running firefox as administrator? In my case, the files were invisible even to the browser when I did that.. I still haven't figured out exactly what's happening.

Pretty much. I can't save files to %windir%/backgrounds from within a 32bit program and keep them visible. If I copy files to that folder from a 64bit program (like explorer) they are visible.

I don't think this sounds exactly like my problem. I've never gotten the error message mentioned and this is about Offline Files, which I don't even run as a service.

It acts like any other 64bit program and cannot see the files. 32bit IE works like any other 32bit program and can see them. This is so strange, I'm honestly leaning towards thinking this is a real bug in the OS. By the way, thanks Mitchell and Trouble for looking at all this with me. I'm new to...

Well, saving the file in the 32bit browser makes it invisible. Then the file can be read in any other 32bit program. Running the same exact browser as admin makes the files invisible. Running the same exact browser regularly but with UAC disabled makes the files invisible.

I agree, it's incredibly strange. Just copied a file to the folder. It warns me that I have to be Admin to do so, but when I click OK it goes fine and is perfectly visible. I can't call this a "browser problem" because: 1st any 32bit program can see it (unless run as Admin or without UAC...

By the way, explorer did not give me so much as a "are you sure you want to overwrite" the folder when I recreated the folder in explorer. It overwrite it (without damaging its contents) as if it never existed to begin with.

Correct. The folder is no longer invisible now, only the file inside it (saved with the web browser) is now invisible. The permissions on it now are different (Access rules have been added for CREATOR OWNER, Users, and TrustedInstaller now that it was recreated with explorer).

Link Removed due to 404 Error The above pic was taken before trying to overwrite the folder. Overwriting the folder in explorer was very interesting... It worked with no error messages. Going into the folder, it's empty..... Now if I view it through my web browser, the folder is there...

Heh, I was waiting for someone to say that. I'm much more concerned with understanding what's going on than actually saving the files there. Besides, the files on my computer belong wherever I want them. Folder options are correct. I'm looking at it right now and I have: Show hidden files...
