There is a difference between intelligence and knowledge. What most are saying here is that many consumers lack knowledge when it comes to the finer points of OS comparisons. And while intelligence can enter into the equation, it’s more of a knowledge thing. Those consumers will rely...
Most consumers don't give a crap about platform, and most don't even know what that means. What they do want to know is if they will gain more than they lose when moving from XP/Vista (or anything else) to W7. Its a little like buying a new car. The worlds greatest 2 seater is mostly...
I think the problem with those with older machines is not so much the machine, but the other stuff there today. I have W7 running on a couple of different PCs now. Some newer and fairly capable and some much older and limp in comparison. So far, W7 seems to have similar performance to XP, so...

All three show in my boot window today, along with a 4th for W7 64 bit. Each is installed to a different partition. I also use a product called BING from terabyteunlimited which may be helpful. Ed
I get teh same result here for a network printer. What is even stranger is that I also have Virtual PC 2007 installed on the W7 partition. If I run it, using an XP setup, it can correctly see and install the printer. Just one more thing that doesnt work with W7. Maybe the RTM will be...
Performance for W7 vs XP is somewhat user specific. I have W7 on two diff PCs now, and it runs slightly slower than XP (on average) for the various tasks I perform. It does seem better than Vista in all cases. Ed
