i just had this same problem. for the last few weeks, IE and all native/3rd party apps that rely on it refused to connect. Firefox and many other programs are worked fine.
the solution is a bit odd, but here's what to do:
goto control panel - internet options - connections tab - LAN settings...
i've been running the beta since it came out without issues.
as of two days ago, any gadget i put in my sidebar that fetches info from the internet is refusing to connect. they worked fine until then, and i have made no significant changes to my system in the last few days.
windows firewall is...
has anybody gotten Bioshock to work in 7000? it gets confused when it sees DX11 and things go kind of weird during the install. then when i run it, it freezes after the spash screen...
maybe i should try running the installer in compatibility mode?
how long do you think 2.5 million serials will last? an hour?
all we know is it's being released this afternoon. presumably pacific standard time. that's late this evening in central europe.
i'd hate to miss out on getting a proper key. especially since that activation crack doesn't extend...
i've been googling but i can't find any info. is it the 7000 build or a new build?
it's only going to be available to the first 2.5 million people who download it. sounds like a lot, but it won't last long! i wish i knew what time it's being released on friday...
thank you for the replies, they are very useful in helping me understand some things.
i have a further question regarding UAC. turning it off disables Gadgets. is this a feature or a bug?
KMPlayer, CCCP and CoreAVC work great. In fact, my H.264 MKV videos play faster and cleaner in 7 than they ever did in XP :)
Media Monkey works, as does CD Art Display.
as far as i know, these have to be programmed specifically, win7 doesn't just make them up on the fly. i think we will start seeing this feature become available in 3rd party programs over the next few months. the beta isn't even officially available for developers after all!
the only app i've...
Directory Opus installs and works, but it kept corrupting my filesystem so it had to go.
Bioshock won't run for me, it crashes after the splash screen.
i had a similar problem with disk corruption. i narrowed it down to the 3rd party file manager, Directory Opus. once i uninstalled and quit using it, everything started working fine. i wonder what has caused it in your case? what apps did you install/use before the corruption occurred?
md5 isn't a file, it's a hex string that is generated mathematically based on several aspects of a file. you just need a tool that will calculate the md5 checksum of the iso you downloaded so you can see if it's valid.
there are lots of tools out there for this. go to portablefreeware.com and...
before i start, let me say that i have never used Vista. in fact, i have never even seen a computer running Vista. i love my XP. it's old enough and stable enough that it can be hacked and customized to a very great extent, and i have it set up to look and work exactly how i want it to. the main...
