The desktop is such a handy thing. Its also widely recognized by even people in places where computers aren't common. Its a symbol of computing and Windows essentially. Its the english language of computers.

As Windows 8 is bound to release...soon, I have noticed many companies and schools finally upgrading from dusty Windows XP to Windows 7. The thing is, with Windows 8 coming around the corner, what is the point of getting 7 now? I mean, its not that long until W8 is out. Why not wait, people!??

So guys, have any of you tried/own a Zune HD? I'm gonna get to play with one later today, and will probs do a write-up of it, and a small video of it. Depending on how I like it, I'll switch to the Zune HD, or stay with my Zune 8GB.

From what I've seen, the Intel i5 is comming out sometime in Q3/Q4 2009, so I would recommend waiting, and seeing how the prices on those are.

Try adding -32bit to the startup options. I think HL2 and HL2EP1 have the option to run an old 64bit exe of the game, which isn't that stable.

This is why I always recommend doing a fresh install, rather than an in place upgrade. I installed Windows 7 6801 over Windows Vista, and then did a clean install, and the clean install ran a whole lot faster than the upgraded one. So my advice, backup and clean install.

Well, I have XP on my old laptop, dual booting with Windows 7, because the Source SDK's faceposer lip sync doesn't work with SAPI 5.3, which is what comes preinstalled on Windows Vista/7. Aside from that, I use Vista as my primary OS, and 7 on my older laptop when I'm not using the SDK.

I'm a 7zip user myself, extracts all the archives I need.

I turn up UAC all the way up in Windows 7 so that it's more secure. As for gaming speed, I saw a 2fps improvement from Vista to 7, from 29 to 31FPS. The os it's self does seem to load faster (say windows explorer), but Vista runs perfectly fine for me. I don't see much of a GUI difference...

Why not just use the version of Windows that came with your PC?

You cannot get a copy of 7000 right now, Microsoft stopped giving out downloads for it a few months ago. I would not recommend getting it via other sources, such as bittorrent, as there is a high possibility of it having a virus or being corrupt. I would say wait for the RC, coming out either...

So far, I've had 0 software issues, Wow64 does a really good job of running 32bit apps under a 64bit OS. As for drivers, if you have older hardware, you might have issues, as you cannot use 32bit drivers under a 64bit OS.

I run vista on my laptop which has 4GB of RAM, and it runs fine. I've used it since Beta 2, and liked it since then. So, I would say it's pretty much FUD spread around by the apple fanboys.
