I've tried to track all the registry changes to see if I could find the ones that disable it on the Desktop only.
There's too many, I've given up .. W7 is soon to be obsolete .. W8 is in the wild now and the beta version is expected soon.
I have a hunch it'll be as unfriendly, if not more.
Interesting approach ...
But that Disables all Thumbnail Browsing .. Known in W7 as Icons
Thumbnails have their place .. But not on the desktop where the real Icons have their advantage.
Has anyone figured out how to disable thumbnail viewing on the Desktop Only .. yet ??
I know how to disable all thumbnail viewing .. But I don’t want to do that.
I can’t see what I’m working with on the desktop.
I fooled with W7 defragg a little .. At least now you can see it's doing "something ?"
Then I played with W7 Partition Shrink .. It would not let me shrink my C partition to less than ~~ 140GB.
But I wanted 60GB ... For my OS only .. I put my data elsewhere so I don't have to defrag .. etc .. as...
UAC = "User Account Control" ... also know as ... "User Annoyance Control"
Found at ... Control Panel >> User Accounts >> Change User Account Control settings
Looks like M$ is trying to force us to keep it turned on
Is your UAC turned on ???
The Gadgets and Folder Icon customization will not work unless UAC is set to at least the minimum annoyance level.
This is what I've found so far, Maybe this is a problem in viewing the desktop also ??
Widows XP MCE .. If I want to do any serious work.
Seems to me that M$ has forgot there’s a difference in the purpose for, and the display of, Icons and Thumbnails.
e.g.… Since when - is a Thumbnail of the contents of a pdf file an Icon ???
If Thumbnails make such great...
Apparently, the Vista > W7 defragger is still not working.
I had to use another Defrag routine to be able to "Shrink" the partition down to something more reasonable
