    Windows 8 Sporadic BSODs

Had one of them 'WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR's after updating the BIOS, but resetting the bios to optimal settings seemed to remedy that - the update must have knocked the auto overclock out of whack? Apart from that, no complaints... So thanks for your help Trouble-- my critical processes seem...

    Windows 8 Sporadic BSODs

Thanks for your replies. Mozgie, I don't have a screenshot but it literally has no other technical information than 'CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED'. Trouble, thanks for taking the trouble. There is indeed a firmware update available for my SSD too. I'll update both and get back to you.

    Windows 8 Sporadic BSODs

Thanks for your reply Saltgrass. The only memory dump I can find is around 400MB. Is there some way to create a minidump from it? Didn't windows forums used to have a diagnostics utility that collated diagnostic data into a zip? Scratch that, found the w7f utility, zip file attached. Any...

    Windows 8 Sporadic BSODs

Hi, I've been suffering from (the Win 8 equivalent of) BSODs every now and then on an otherwise very smooth new build. A few moments before the BSOD, the task start bar at the bottom will disappear, things will become unresponsive, and then it will BSOD with 'CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED' and reboot...

Windows 7 Show total size like in XP?

Are you sure? I have folders with hundreds of items in, still lets me click 'more info' to see the total size when I select them all (but not when a subfolder is selected). Alternatively, you can select the necessary files and go to properties on the context menu, though that's not ideal.

Windows 7 Show total size like in XP?

In your folder, click on Organise at the top left. Go to Layout, enable the Details Pane. That will bring up a pane along the bottom of the folder showing details of any file or multiple files selected, including size.

Windows 7 windows 7 professional 64 bit sound problem

Mitchell is right, first thing to do is check the drivers. Some things you might have overlooked: i) Right click on the speaker icon in your taskbar, go to playback devices, check that you haven't accidentally set a different output to default (e.g. on my PC I have another option for Digital...

QWindows 7: Desktop not covering full width of monitor

I'd second what Mitchell said about the settings on the monitor itself. I remember once spending many many hours configuring and reconfiguring my graphics card, only to discover that there was an option in the settings of my monitor to set the screen position - it just needed to be nudged...

Windows 7 Random unresponsiveness, occassional BSOD

Thanks for your prompt and thorough reply,Usasma. You're right, the start-up lag disappeared with a clean boot. Am in the process of re-enabling services and start up items to try and see what was causing the issue, will report back if I identify it. [Edit: This is very odd. I have now enabled...

Windows 7 Random unresponsiveness, occassional BSOD

Hi there, Been suffering with this problem for months and can't seem to remedy it. When I first boot my system, or resume it from sleep, my PC will randomly freeze for about 30 seconds, then go back to normal. This happens anywhere from 4-6 times within the first 20 minutes, and then stops. I...
