What the Starter Pack is
The Starter Pack is a single-mission demo. It isn't a time-limited trial of the full game.
- Content: The opening Iceland mission. Steam's listing calls it the "opening chapter". Neither the publisher nor Steam says how long it takes to finish.
- Price: Free.
- Progress: IO Interactive says progress made in either experience carries over into the full game upon purchase. Steam's listing says the same about upgrading from the demo to the full version.
- Steam listing details: Steam lists it as a single-player game demo with Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud. It supports 14 languages.
- Where to find it: On Xbox Series X|S it appears as a separate downloadable edition in the Microsoft Store. Searching for 007 First Light in the Xbox Store finds it.
Steam also says the full version unlocks the entire story, the Challenges, and the Tactical Simulations mode. The demo covers none of those.
PlayStation: two separate offers
The PlayStation situation is easy to muddle, so here are the two offers side by side.
| Offer | Who gets it | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Free Starter Pack | PlayStation players | Coming to PlayStation players on November 10th |
| Timed Trial | PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers | An exclusive one-hour Timed Trial of the full game |
The one-hour trial is the Premium-only perk. It is not the free pack. The announcement doesn't say other PlayStation Plus tiers can use the trial. It also doesn't confirm that the PlayStation pack went live on schedule, so check the PlayStation Store on or after November 10.
Windows PC requirements
Steam lists these requirements for the Starter Pack. They come from the store page, and I haven't tested performance.
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | 64-bit Windows 10/11 | 64-bit Windows 10/11 |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-9500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500 | Intel Core i5-13500 or AMD Ryzen 5 7600 |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | Nvidia GTX 1660, AMD RX 5700, or equivalent Intel discrete GPU | Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, AMD RX 6700 XT, or equivalent Intel discrete GPU |
| Storage | 80 GB free, SSD required | 80 GB free, SSD required |
Two points stand out for anyone on a modest PC.
- Storage: The 80 GB figure and the SSD requirement are heavy for a demo. Steam lists the same storage for the demo as for the minimum spec of a large modern game. I wouldn't read that as the demo's actual download size. Check your free space before clicking Install, especially on a small system drive.
- Hardware floor: 16 GB of RAM is listed even at the minimum, and the GPU baseline is a GTX 1660-class card. A budget laptop with integrated graphics and 8 GB of RAM is unlikely to qualify.
If the demo runs well, that is a reasonable sign the full game will too, since it's the same opening content and presumably the same engine. Treat that as a general inference, not a guarantee. The demo is also a cheap way to check your own hardware before you pay for the full game.
The sale: full game only
The discounts apply to the full game, not the free pack. IO Interactive lists 40% off on Steam from November 5 to 9, and 40% off on Xbox Series X|S from November 5 to 15. PlayStation 5 gets 50% off from November 5 to 30. As of November 6, all three sales are still running. The Steam sale is the shortest, ending November 9.
- Edition: FullCleared reports the Steam discount applies to the Deluxe Edition. The publisher's statement doesn't list which editions are covered. Check the specific edition on your storefront.
- Prices: The sources don't give exact sale prices or regional pricing, so I won't quote any.
- Editions available: The game comes in Standard, Deluxe, Collector's, and Legacy Editions.
Where the Gamemeca report went wrong
Gamemeca's English piece is the only one of these sources that gets several dates wrong.
- PS5 starter pack: Gamemeca says August 10. The publisher says November 10.
- Steam sale end: Gamemeca says August 9. The publisher says November 9.
- PS5 sale end: Gamemeca says August 30. The publisher says November 30.
The Korean original appears to say "the 10th," "the 9th," and "the 30th" with no month, so the August dates likely come from the machine translation. If you rely on translated gaming news, check the dates against the publisher's announcement.
The Switch 2 date
Gamemeca says the Nintendo Switch 2 version arrives March 18, 2027. IO Interactive's press release says only that it will follow later this Summer 2026, which looks like stale boilerplate in a November release. Other outlets back the March date. FullCleared reports the Switch 2 version was pushed back twice and is now set for March 18, 2027. Gaming Age also cites March 18th, 2027. I'd treat March 18, 2027 as the current date. The publisher's own page hasn't been updated to say so.
Why this matters to Windows and Xbox players
Time-limited trials and big demos are becoming a standard way to sell large games. Techtroduce compares this release to the free five-hour Xbox trial for Crimson Desert Enhanced, which also carries progress over. For PC players, a free demo that keeps your save is useful. You can find out whether the game runs on your hardware before you spend anything.
The sale timing is the obvious commercial hook, and the demo is clearly meant to drive full-game purchases. That isn't a flaw, but note that the Steam discount ends first.
Quick steps to try it
- Make sure you have a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC with at least 80 GB free on an SSD.
- On Steam, search for "007 First Light Free Starter Pack" and install the demo. On Xbox, search for 007 First Light in the store and pick the free edition.
- Play through the Iceland opening mission.
- If you buy the full game, your progress carries over, according to IO Interactive and Steam.
- On PlayStation, wait for November 10, or use the one-hour trial if you have PlayStation Plus Premium.
Bottom line: The free pack is a real, no-cost demo on Steam and Xbox Series X|S that covers the Iceland opening. The sale dates to trust are the November ones. Check your storage and hardware first, and remember the sale on Steam ends November 9.
Update: Additional details (November 6, 2026)
The Xbox Store listing carries an Xbox Play Anywhere badge and lists both Xbox Series X|S and PC under “Play with.” The listing does not explain whether saves sync between devices. Notebookcheck identifies the opening mission as “Against the Odds.”
An Xbox Store snapshot showed the Standard Edition at $41.99, down from $69.99, and the Deluxe Edition Upgrade at $11.99, down from $19.99. Prices may vary by region and change over time.
