Two blocky adventurers dig for treasure on a tropical beach at sunset, joined by a dog, crab, and turtle.
A Game About Digging A Hole Together now has a release date. It arrives on December 4, 2026, and it is part of the Xbox and Game Pass lineup. Xbox Wire says it is heading to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass on that date. The date came out of the October 20 ID@Xbox and IGN showcase. It is a small indie title, but it has real implications for Game Pass subscribers, Xbox Play Anywhere owners and anyone with a PC or a handheld.

Two blocky adventurers dig for treasure on a tropical beach at sunset, joined by a dog, crab, and turtle. What Xbox has confirmed

Xbox's own showcase recap is the firmest source here. It describes the game as a minimalist experience about digging a hole at the beach, now with friends. The core loop is unchanged: dig, collect resources, sell them and upgrade your gear. The new hook is a promised treasure buried deep beneath the sand.

The Xbox Store listing adds practical detail:

  • Publisher and developer: rokaplay publishes and Mi'pu'mi Games develops.
  • Platforms listed: Xbox Series X|S, PC and handheld.
  • Enhancements: the listing marks the game as Optimized for Xbox Series X|S. It also lists Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase should cover console and PC.
  • Multiplayer: it lists online co-op for 2–4 players and Xbox cross-platform multiplayer.
  • Solo play: single player is listed too. The store description jokes that you can still dig alone, so the sequel is not co-op only.
  • Other features: 60 fps+, achievements, cloud saves and Xbox presence.

Other platforms, from the publisher's release

Inven Global, working from a press release, says the game is also coming to Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, alongside Xbox on PC and Xbox Series X|S. A separate site that covered the trailer also lists Steam, PS5 and Switch 2. Xbox Wire's recap does not mention those platforms, so treat them as publisher-reported for now.

The Game Pass fine print

"Game Pass" is the label Xbox Wire uses, and it does not name a tier. The Xbox Store listing is a bit more specific about online play. It says online multiplayer on console requires Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate (subscriptions sold separately). That sentence only covers the console multiplayer requirement. It does not say which plan includes the game.

TrueAchievements reported on September 30 that the sequel would be playable on day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. That was reporting from before the date announcement. The Xbox sources reviewed here don't spell out the tiers, so check the final store page near launch.

There is a useful precedent. The first game's Xbox listing says it is cloud playable with Game Pass Premium and Ultimate. The same listing says a purchase is required to stream it with Game Pass Essential. The sequel's cloud terms haven't been confirmed, so don't assume they match.

One caution on crossplay: the Xbox listing says "Xbox cross-platform multiplayer." That does not by itself confirm that Xbox players can join friends on PlayStation, Switch 2, Steam or Epic. TrueAchievements did say the sequel offers online co-op for up to four players with crossplay, but it didn't say between which platforms. Anyone planning a mixed-platform dig session should wait for the developers to spell that out.

What the publisher says about the game

These claims come from the press release carried by Inven Global, and Xbox has not independently confirmed them:

  • The first game began as a single-developer side project built in a few weeks, reached the top 30 on Steam and has reportedly sold over 1 million copies.
  • The sequel adds more terrain, tools and secrets.
  • Mipumi Games rebuilt the game's code so it runs more smoothly. That is a marketing claim, not a measured benchmark.
  • Player reviews and requests from the first game fed into the new title.
  • The digging technology reportedly uses a voxel engine derived from an early version of Solarpunk.

Why PC and Xbox users might care

This is a modest release, but it shows a few things about how Xbox ships games now:

  1. Day-one Game Pass for indies. Small studios keep getting subscription placement at launch.
  2. Play Anywhere. A single purchase covers console and PC, which helps people who split time between a Windows desktop and a console.
  3. Handheld readiness. The listing flags handheld support, but it doesn't name a specific device, so don't read it as confirming any one handheld.

For a low-spec Windows PC or a handheld, a voxel digging game with a promised 60 fps+ listing is plausible. Real performance won't be known until launch.

Bottom line

The firm facts are the December 4, 2026 date, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Game Pass availability, Play Anywhere, and the single-player and 2–4 player online co-op options. Everything else, including the other platforms, the sales figure, the performance claims and the engine lineage, comes from the publisher. Check the store page for the exact Game Pass tier and cloud availability as launch day approaches.
