What was announced
The news came out of the ID@Xbox and IGN showcase on October 20, 2026. Xbox Wire's recap says Croak will be a day one Game Pass title. That matches the Games Press release from the studio, which says the same thing.
Here is what the sources support:
- Window: March 2027. No exact day has been given.
- Platforms: Xbox Series X|S and PC. Xbox Wire's wording is "Xbox on PC", while Gematsu names Steam and the Microsoft Store.
- Game Pass: Day one, according to Xbox Wire and the studio's own release.
- Xbox Play Anywhere: Xbox Wire says the game supports it. Its recap says many of the showcase games with Play Anywhere let you play across console and PC at no extra cost.
- Demo: Output Lag reports that a demo is already out. The Steam listing reviewed for this piece also showed a demo and a playtest sign-up.
What we don't know yet
Several details people will ask about are not in any of the reporting:
- Price.
- The exact March launch day.
- Which Game Pass tiers will include it.
- Performance modes or console-specific optimization.
- Cross-save or entitlement mechanics under Play Anywhere.
Play Anywhere usually means one purchase covers both console and PC. This announcement doesn't spell out how it will work for Croak, so treat it as a headline feature until Microsoft or the studio gives details.
Why Windows and PC players should care
For PC players, the practical points are the Microsoft Store listing and Game Pass on PC. If you like your platformers on a handheld PC or a living-room console, Play Anywhere support is the interesting part.
The Steam page I reviewed, in its Portuguese-language version, still showed "coming soon" rather than the new window. Treat that as a page that hasn't been updated yet, not as a contradiction. It listed these minimum requirements:
- A 64-bit processor and operating system.
- Windows 10 or newer.
- An Intel Core i3 M380.
- 2 GB of RAM.
- Intel HD 4000 graphics.
- DirectX 10.
- 1,710 MB of storage.
Those are the currently displayed Steam minimums, not a confirmed final spec sheet. The recommended section was incomplete when captured, and nothing here says the Xbox versions share these requirements. They are modest figures, but wait for the final listing before assuming an old laptop will cope.
The game, briefly
The developer's description is marketing copy, not a verdict on quality. It says the prince uses his tongue to grapple, dash and bounce through hundreds of hand-crafted rooms. The "hundreds" figure is the developer's claim and hasn't been independently counted. Xbox Wire says each world has its own boss, hidden collectibles and a unique traversal ability. It also mentions an online speedrunning leaderboard. The Steam copy describes swamps, haunted mines and snowy mountains on the way to a cursed castle. Credits include talent from Cuphead and Rick and Morty.
The studio is a Montréal-based indie that, per Output Lag, is making Croak as its first announced title. A first game with a day-one Game Pass slot is a good outcome for a small team. Game Pass placement is not a review, though. Whether the platforming holds up is something the demo and launch reviews will show.
Bottom line
- March 2027, Xbox Series X|S and PC, day-one Game Pass, with Play Anywhere support.
- Pricing, exact date and final PC requirements are still open.
- If you want to judge it before launch, the demo is the best evidence available now.
