Waveling Island has been announced for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and the question is when it arrives and where you'll be able to get it. BerserkBoy Games, the developer behind Berserk Boy, announced the pixel art creature-collecting simulator for Xbox Series and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. The Gematsu report says no release date was announced. Xbox's own showcase recap does give a window, so there is more to say than that.

A pixel-art adventurer and cute creatures explore a lush seaside village at sunset, with a lighthouse and waterfalls. What was announced

The reveal came during the ID@Xbox x IGN showcase on October 20, 2026. Xbox Wire's recap says the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC in early 2027. That is a window, not a date. No month or day has been given in the sources I reviewed.

Be careful with other showcase roundups. Some say only that the game is "coming soon". One third-party roundup gives a specific March 2027 date and Game Pass day-one status. It contradicts the others, and Xbox Wire gives no such details. Treat "early 2027" as the verified window until the developer or Xbox says more.

Platforms and storefronts

Gematsu names Steam and the Microsoft Store for the PC version. Xbox Wire uses the phrasing "Xbox on PC". The sources don't say whether the Steam and Microsoft Store builds will match on features, saves or achievements. They also don't say anything about cross-buy.

  • Xbox Play Anywhere: Xbox Wire says that many showcase games will support it at launch. Its entry for Waveling Island doesn't list the game as one of them, so don't assume it.
  • Game Pass: Xbox Wire's Waveling Island entry doesn't mention Game Pass. Other showcase entries do call it out, so the omission is notable.
  • Pricing and performance: neither has been announced.

What the game is, per the developer

The gameplay details come from the game's Steam page, as quoted by Gematsu. They are developer claims, not hands-on findings.

  • Premise: you wash ashore with only a backpack. You catch, train and battle creatures called Wavelings to complete quests, gather materials, and make a home on the island.
  • Open-world encounters: Wavelings roam the wilds in the open, with no random encounters and no loading screen between you and the fight.
  • Real-time battles: Your Wavelings fight while waiting for your command. A frequency bar fills during battle, and when it does you choose the attack. You then weaken a creature and try to catch it with a net.
  • Team building: You battle with a party of five, and every Waveling can learn up to eight moves with a fully customizable moveset.
  • Time and weather: some Wavelings appear only in certain weather or at certain times of day, and some are stronger and rarer than anything you'd meet at noon.
  • Island building: you craft decorations, plant flowers and build houses for islanders. The page also says you can "progress at your pace, or don't progress at all".
  • Campaign: There is a full campaign with different scenarios based on your decisions, a main questline, and side quests.

Why PC and Xbox players might care

The hybrid is the point. Real-time, in-world battles with no separate battle screen suit a controller-first console, and also a keyboard-and-mouse or handheld PC. The sources don't state input support, so that is my inference.

BerserkBoy Games' last game was Berserk Boy, an action platformer. This is a change of genre for the studio. Whether the new game works as a cozy sim can't be judged from a trailer and a store page.

What to watch for

  1. An exact release date. The Xbox Wire window is "early 2027".
  2. Confirmation of Xbox Play Anywhere and Game Pass status.
  3. Whether the Microsoft Store and Steam versions are identical.
  4. Pricing, and whether there is a demo before launch.

For now, this is a verified announcement with a platform list and a rough window. Any release date is still unannounced.
