A team reviews social media data flowing through an API into analytics dashboards and security systems.
Askpolly, an Ottawa-based market-research company, says it has plugged its social-media research platform into Microsoft Copilot Cowork. Research Live reported the news on October 9, 2026. The company's own announcement went out on October 1. For admins who run Dynamics 365, Power BI and Microsoft 365 Copilot, the useful question is what such an integration changes about data flows and governance. Most of the answers aren't public yet.

A team reviews social media data flowing through an API into analytics dashboards and security systems. What was announced

Customers can combine Askpolly's social insights with their own sales data inside Microsoft tools they already use. The company says this works through Askpolly's API, with data combined directly in Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI or Copilot. Organizations can also build custom dashboards in other Microsoft tools that call the API, aiming at sales forecasting with current social signals.

Inside Cowork, destinationCRM reports that customers can ask questions of the data, identify patterns, and generate reports for export to PowerPoint or Excel. The same outlet lists use cases: testing messages before launch, tracking campaigns in near real time, and comparing social signals with sales results.

Availability is described as a Marketplace route. Anyone with a current Copilot subscription can download and activate Askpolly through Microsoft Marketplace. That wording is Askpolly's. The sources don't say which Copilot licenses qualify, whether the add-on costs extra, or how tenant admins approve it.

What the data is, according to Askpolly

These are vendor descriptions. I haven't seen independent validation of them.

  • The company says it filters out bots, influencers and paid content, then builds representative samples matched to census demographics.
  • The underlying data refreshes every 24 hours.
  • Users pick an audience, see how many people in the available sample meet the criteria, and get customized research in minutes.

The 24-hour refresh matters for the "near real time" campaign-tracking claim. Daily-refreshed data is fast by survey standards, but it isn't live. The coverage gives no sampling details, error margins or platform coverage. "Statistically valid" is therefore a marketing description, not a verified guarantee.

The security claim needs scrutiny

CEO Erin Kelly's quote leans on data control. She says uploading data to the cloud feels risky, especially given recent high-profile IP theft. The press release goes further: "Nothing needs to be uploaded to the cloud," it says, calling this a more secure way to analyze sensitive business information.

Admins should read that carefully. The integration runs through an API and through Copilot, which is a cloud service. The announcement doesn't explain where the queries run, what leaves the tenant, or what Askpolly stores. It also doesn't say how API authentication works or whether prompts or results are retained or used for training. "Inside Microsoft tools" describes where users work. It doesn't prove where data is processed. Kelly's reference to IP theft is a general industry concern, not an incident tied to Askpolly or Microsoft.

Microsoft's controls apply to Microsoft's plugins, not automatically to this

Microsoft has described how Cowork works with its own Dynamics 365 plugins. In its June 16 post, the company said Cowork is grounded in your records, governed by your permissions, and gated by human approval before anything is written back. The same post says admins manage plugins centrally and keep them off until an administrator turns them on. That behavior is documented for Microsoft's Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer Service plugins, and the Dataverse layer that applies approved writes.

Microsoft's October 8 CRM skills post repeats the caveat that availability and use depend on administrator configuration, user or tenant consent, licensing, and organizational policies. Neither post covers Askpolly. It would be a mistake to assume a third-party connector inherits the same approval gates or permission model. Verify that with the vendor.

A practical checklist before turning it on

For IT and data-governance teams, the gaps in the public record translate into questions to put to Askpolly and your Microsoft 365 administrator:

  1. Which Copilot experience is supported? Cowork is named. Dynamics 365, Power BI and custom dashboards are described as API-based.
  2. What licenses and costs apply? Marketplace access is mentioned. Pricing isn't.
  3. What permissions does it request? Check consent scope, API credentials and who can approve the connector.
  4. What is the data flow? Ask for a diagram showing whether sales data is sent to Askpolly, Microsoft or another service.
  5. What about retention and training? Ask how long inputs and outputs are kept, where they are stored, and whether they feed model training.
  6. Is there an audit trail? Confirm whether API calls and Cowork actions are logged, and where.
  7. Does the human-approval model hold? If Cowork exports reports or writes to records, confirm what needs review.

Context and analysis

The integration reflects a broader pattern. Microsoft is pushing Copilot and Cowork as places where third parties plug in. On September 25, Microsoft said the same foundation behind apps built in Cowork, Code and Copilot Studio is being opened to third-party and pro-code developers. Askpolly is an early example of a niche data vendor taking that route. Its existing standing with Microsoft is documented: Research Live's September report said the company is a Microsoft partner with Azure IP co-sell eligible status, availability through Microsoft Marketplace and a Copilot-certified agent.

The announcement itself is vendor-originated. The destinationCRM and Research Live coverage largely repeats the company's release. Nothing I found shows hands-on testing, customer results or a Microsoft statement about this integration. The "co-sell eligible" status also isn't a Microsoft endorsement of the product's accuracy or security. It means qualifying customers can buy against their existing Azure commitment.

Bottom line

If your marketing or analytics teams already use Copilot with Dynamics 365 or Power BI, Askpolly is now another data source they can reach from those tools. Treat the speed, statistical-validity and "nothing leaves your environment" claims as unverified until the vendor documents them. Test the connector in a limited pilot, with admin consent and an approved data-flow review, before it touches production sales data.
