Anthropic's Claude is starting to look less like a chatbot and more like a workplace suite. On October 8, 2026, Anthropic pushed it further in that direction. That has real consequences for anyone who runs Microsoft 365, Power BI or Copilot. The new tools are live dashboards and animated explainers. The document, slide and design tools also left beta. Here is what shipped, who can use it, and what administrators need to decide.

Anthropic's announcement covers two new beta products and one graduation:

  • Claude Dashboards is in beta on paid plans.
  • Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only.
  • Claude Docs, Slides and Design are out of beta and available on every plan, including Free.

TechCentral, citing Reuters, frames this as Anthropic moving into direct competition with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Tableau and Power BI. That framing is analysis, not a measured market result. Anthropic's own documentation is more modest about Dashboards, as the next section shows.

Claude Dashboards: plain-language questions, visible queries

Dashboards connects to data platforms such as Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks and Snowflake. It also connects to CRM tools such as Salesforce. A user asks a question in plain language. Claude pulls the data, builds the charts and is meant to keep them current as the data changes.

Two details matter for trust:

  • A user can click any number to see the query behind it, or ask Claude to explain that query.
  • Each chart shows when its data was last refreshed.

This lets a reader inspect how a figure was produced. It does not prove the query is right or the answer complete, and Anthropic does not claim it does. A human who understands the schema still has to check the work.

Anthropic also says Dashboards suits quick, exploratory questions, such as comparing this week's signups with last month's. For deeper work it points users to dedicated BI tools. Dashboards can be sent to Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, Omni, Perplexity, PostHog or Sigma. Looker, monday.com and Tableau are listed as coming soon. TechCentral's list of integrations is shorter than Anthropic's own.

Power BI is not on the export list, available or planned. For Microsoft shops, Claude Dashboards is a possible front end for ad hoc questions, not a drop-in Power BI replacement.

Claude Motion: code-driven animation, not generated video

Motion turns a prompt into a short animated explainer. Anthropic's examples include these:

  • A 30-second summary of a quarterly report for an all-hands meeting.
  • Motion added to a chart in a board deck.
  • A product walkthrough for customer onboarding.

Users can edit the result in a built-in editor or ask Claude to change it. They can then download it as an MP4.

Unlike video generators such as Sora or Veo, Motion does not use a video-generation model. Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images. The output therefore contains no generated footage and no AI-generated people. Because the animation is code, a user can change any word, number or timing.

Anthropic lists Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI and Runway as tools where work can continue. Canva and Captions are coming soon.

For IT teams, this design choice has a practical benefit. A chart that animates your own numbers carries less deepfake or likeness risk than synthetic footage. The risk of getting the numbers wrong is still there.

Docs, Slides and Design leave beta

Anthropic says users have made more than 45 million docs, decks and designs in Claude since the tools arrived. That is Anthropic's own figure and has not been independently audited. The beta label is now gone, and the release adds these changes:

  • Team editing: people and Claude can work on the same doc, deck, design or dashboard.
  • Mobile editing: docs, decks and designs can be edited in the Claude mobile app.
  • Exports: PowerPoint and PDF downloads are meant to match what you see in the editor. Decks can go to Google Slides as editable files.
  • Enterprise controls: artifacts now support customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK). Admins choose which artifact templates their organization uses.
  • Sharing: slides, designs, dashboards and animations can be shared outside the organization or by link, if the admin allows it.

Admin checklist for Enterprise and Team

This is the part IT should read closely. Anthropic's admin guide describes these defaults and controls.

Defaults

  • Docs, Slides and Design: on by default for Team plans. On Enterprise they turn on by default on October 15, 2026. Admins can enable them earlier or switch them off before then.
  • Motion: on by default for Team plans and off by default on Enterprise.
  • Dashboards: available on paid plans and off by default on Enterprise.

Turning artifacts on

  1. An Owner or Primary Owner, or an Enterprise custom role with the right admin permissions, turns on "Cloud code execution and file creation" in Organization settings > Capabilities.
  2. They then go to Organization settings > Artifacts and turn on Artifacts.
  3. Under Templates, they enable the templates they want.

Turning Artifacts off stops new sharing within the organization. Links that were already shared keep working.

Sharing outside the organization

  • External sharing and email invitations for outside people are two separate settings. Turning on one does not turn on the other.
  • Turning External sharing off also stops existing public links from working, except for artifacts an admin allows individually.
  • Docs cannot yet be shared outside the organization.
  • Artifacts that use connected apps, or that ask Claude questions, cannot use "Anyone with the link."

Connected apps

Each user connects their own apps, even inside a shared artifact. An organization can switch artifact connectors on or off. Anthropic says it cannot limit which apps artifacts can reach. That is a governance gap, and it deserves a conversation with your security team before you enable Dashboards on production data.

Role-based access (Enterprise)

The organization setting is the main switch. Custom roles are the per-user switches beneath it. If a feature is off at the organization level, no custom role can grant access to it.

Usage and billing

  • Artifacts draw on each user's existing usage limits, with no separate allowance.
  • Usage-based Enterprise plans bill at standard API rates, subject to spend limits.
  • Anthropic announced no new prices. It does warn that longer Motion animations use more of the allowance.

Compliance

  • In HIPAA-ready configurations, these artifact features are not covered by the Business Associate Agreement. Anthropic says to keep protected health information out of them.
  • Artifacts are not available through third-party cloud platforms.
  • The Compliance API records artifacts at the artifact level. Edits and comments inside a doc are not recorded yet.

Standalone Claude Design is closing

Design has worked inside Claude conversations since September 16. The standalone site at claude.ai/design stays up until December 14, 2026. Teams using it should act in the meantime:

  • Use "Migrate team design systems" on the Artifacts page. One migration brings over every design system in the organization.
  • Save any chats and comments. They stay in the standalone version and will not be available after it closes.
  • Expect public links to standalone projects to stop working at closure.
  • Existing projects keep working there until the closure date.

The Microsoft angle

Anthropic is both a partner and a rival to Microsoft here. Microsoft said at launch that it worked closely with Anthropic and integrated the technology behind Claude Cowork into Microsoft 365 Copilot. Windows Central likewise reported that the new Copilot Cowork experience is powered by Anthropic's Claude Cowork. Directions on Microsoft notes that Claude is the default model in some features, such as Copilot Cowork and AI in SharePoint, and those features won't work if Anthropic isn't enabled in a tenancy.

So a Microsoft tenant may already depend on Anthropic models. Now the same company sells a direct-to-user workspace that overlaps with Word, PowerPoint and Power BI.

What to do and what to watch

For most Microsoft-centric organizations, this is not a migration event. It is a shadow-IT and governance event. Free-tier users can already create docs, decks and designs in Claude. Team plan defaults are on. October 15 is the date Enterprise defaults flip for Docs, Slides and Design.

Sensible steps:

  1. Decide before October 15 whether Docs, Slides and Design should be on for your Enterprise organization.
  2. Keep Dashboards and Motion off until security signs off on connectors and data-warehouse access.
  3. Set external sharing policy deliberately, and remember that the two sharing settings are independent.
  4. Treat every dashboard number as unverified until someone has reviewed the visible query.
  5. Check your compliance requirements, especially for regulated health data.

Whether Claude becomes a true office suite is still open. Anthropic's own wording positions Dashboards beside BI tools rather than above them. The packaging, though, is now familiar: documents, decks, dashboards, video, team editing, admin controls and encryption keys.
