Remedy’s final PC requirements for CONTROL Resonant make one point unusually clear: an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 is not the price of admission for the game, or even for ray tracing in general. It is the GPU named for one very specific top-end objective—2160p at 60 FPS in the chart’s Path Tracing Enthusiast tier, using a Performance upscaler preset, High graphics, and High ray tracing.

That distinction matters for Windows PC players weighing whether their existing system is viable. The requirements lay out a broad ladder, beginning with older and mainstream graphics hardware at 1080p with ray tracing disabled, continuing through lower ray-tracing targets, and ending at a demanding high-resolution path-tracing goal. The chart is a useful purchasing and expectation-setting tool, but it is not a substitute for independent launch testing of image quality, sustained performance, or frame-time consistency.

CONTROL Resonant is scheduled to reach PC on September 24, 2026, through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Remedy said the final requirements were announced on September 9.

What the RTX 5080 requirement actually means​

The headline-grabbing RTX 5080 entry belongs to the Path Tracing Enthusiast tier. Remedy’s stated target for that configuration is:

This is an ambitious combination of resolution, frame-rate target, graphics quality, and advanced lighting. It should not be shortened to “CONTROL Resonant requires an RTX 5080 for ray tracing.” Remedy lists substantially lower hardware for lower ray-tracing goals.

There is another important qualification in the phrase “2160p at 60 FPS.” The stated configuration uses the Performance upscaler preset. The published material does not disclose the internal rendering resolution associated with that preset, so this should not be characterized as a native-4K requirement. Nor does the requirements sheet establish how the final image will compare with other presets or rendering approaches. Those are questions for hands-on testing after release.

For prospective RTX 5080 owners, the chart does establish that Remedy views the card as its named target for the most demanding labeled path-tracing experience. It does not prove that other high-end GPUs cannot run path tracing at a lower resolution, reduced settings, or lower performance target.

The lower ray-tracing ladder is much more accessible​

The requirements show that ray-traced play is not confined to the RTX 5080 tier. Remedy lists two lower targets that place the technology within reach of a wider range of Windows gaming PCs.

That is a meaningful contrast with the Path Tracing Enthusiast configuration: these are not equivalent experiences, but the chart indicates that basic ray-tracing support spans several generations and all three major GPU vendors.

The next ray-tracing step targets 1440p at 60 FPS with Medium ray tracing. Remedy names the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and Radeon RX 9070 for that tier. That pairing gives buyers an official reference point for a more demanding 60 FPS ray-traced target without treating the RTX 5080 as a universal requirement.

The top tier becomes less straightforward for non-NVIDIA shoppers. Remedy names only the RTX 5080 in the Path Tracing Enthusiast column. The chart does not supply a Radeon or Arc counterpart for its 2160p/60 target. That omission does not demonstrate that no such equivalent exists; it simply leaves buyers without an official vendor-neutral comparison for the highest setting.

A GTX 1070-class floor does not promise a modern high-end experience​

CONTROL Resonant’s non-ray-traced minimum target is notably less demanding than its path-tracing goal. Remedy lists 1080p at 30 FPS, a Quality upscaler preset, Low graphics, and ray tracing disabled for systems equipped with a GeForce GTX 1070, Radeon RX 5600 XT, or Intel Arc A580. The stated VRAM requirement for this target is 6 GB.

This is useful news for players on older PCs: the game’s baseline is not restricted to the newest generation of graphics cards. But it needs to be interpreted exactly as written. It is a target for 30 FPS at Low settings with ray tracing turned off, not a guarantee of high settings, native-resolution rendering, 60 FPS, or consistent performance in every scene.

A minimum specification also cannot settle the broader question of optimization. A game may offer a relatively low hardware floor and still show uneven frame times, sharp drops in complex locations, long traversal stutters, or image-quality compromises introduced by an upscaler mode. Conversely, a demanding requirement can sometimes yield stable real-world results. Independent launch-day benchmarks across a range of CPUs, GPUs, memory configurations, and driver versions will be needed before either conclusion is justified.

Storage and memory remain fixed costs of entry​

The shared 16 GB RAM figure is likewise a baseline compatibility signal, not proof that every workload around the game will behave identically. The game is built on Northlight, Remedy’s proprietary engine and toolset. Remedy identifies Northlight as the technology behind Quantum Break, CrossfireX Story Mode, Control, Alan Wake 2, and the next Control games. That background helps explain why lighting and rendering features are central to the discussion around CONTROL Resonant, but it should not be used to predict performance from prior Remedy releases. Engine lineage is context, not a benchmark.

Nor should support for a feature be confused with a uniform experience across hardware. The requirements demonstrate that Remedy intends to scale the game from ray tracing off through lower and medium ray-tracing targets to a high-end path-tracing configuration. They do not yet show the visual difference between those modes, the cost of each effect, or which compromises offer the best balance on any particular card.

Practical advice before upgrading a Windows gaming PC​

The published ladder gives players a sensible way to assess their position.

If your objective is simply to run CONTROL Resonant, the lowest listed target is far below an RTX 5080. A GTX 1070, RX 5600 XT, or Arc A580 is associated with 1080p/30 at Low settings with ray tracing off. That is the appropriate comparison point for an older PC, rather than the Path Tracing Enthusiast tier.

If ray tracing is the priority, identify which target matches your display and frame-rate expectations. The RTX 2060 SUPER/RX 6600/Arc A580 class is listed for 1080p/30 with Low RT, while the RTX 4070 Ti/RX 9070 level is listed for 1440p/60 with Medium RT. Those are very different goals in both responsiveness and visual settings.

If 2160p, 60 FPS, High settings, and high ray tracing are non-negotiable, the RTX 5080 is the sole official GPU named for that path-tracing label. Even then, a purchase decision should account for the specified Performance upscaler preset and the absence of published independent testing. The target is promising, but not yet a verified description of every demanding scene or a direct measure of image quality.

Finally, AMD and Intel buyers should avoid assuming an unofficial equivalency for the highest path-tracing tier. Remedy has provided Radeon and Arc examples lower in the ladder, but no corresponding recommendation beside the RTX 5080 at Path Tracing Enthusiast level.
