Cyberpunk 2077 is getting two Xbox-relevant changes at once. It has apparently joined Xbox Play Anywhere, and Update 2.5 (the "Edgerunners 2 Update") adds console mod support. CD Projekt Red's patch notes put the update's release at October 22.

A neon-lit gaming setup features a large monitor, glowing PC, controller, and a sleeping cat against a futuristic cityscape. The "this Wednesday" wrinkle

Pure Xbox's headline says "this Wednesday." The date that matters is the one in CD Projekt Red's notes, which were published on October 21. CD Projekt Red has released the 2.5 patch notes for the free Edgerunners 2 Update. The update launches on October 22, 2026, for PC, Mac via Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The studio says Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version get it "in the days to follow."

On the evidence available, October 22 is a scheduled release. Nothing in the notes confirms the patch is live yet. Check your console's download queue rather than assuming it has arrived.

Xbox Play Anywhere: what is known, and what isn't

Pure Xbox's Craig Reid reported that the game appears to have joined the program. He saw the Play Anywhere tag on the Xbox Store page and saw the game listed as "Installable" in the Xbox PC app. He also noted that it still seemed to prompt Cloud Gaming, which suggests a rollout still in progress. TrueAchievements says players who own the game can play on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC, complete with cloud saves. It adds that support arrives a day before Update 2.5 on October 22.

In practice, the general Xbox Play Anywhere model is that one digital purchase from the Xbox or Windows store covers console and PC. Saves and achievements follow your account. That is Microsoft's general description of the program, not something confirmed for Cyberpunk specifically. Treat the details below as unconfirmed until CD Projekt Red or Microsoft says more:

  • Whether every edition and region is covered.
  • Whether physical-disc owners qualify. A reader comment on Pure Xbox raised this, but no reporting or documentation backs it.
  • Whether the Steam, GOG and Epic PC versions are affected. Play Anywhere concerns Xbox and Windows store purchases, so they shouldn't be.

Console mods: the useful details

The notes describe Cross-Platform Mod Support powered by mod.io. Players browse and install "a selection" of player-created mods from the in-game menu. CD Projekt Red calls it a first step and says more mods will arrive over time. Mods are browsed and installed directly from the game's menu, with more becoming available over time.

Four points to keep in mind:

  • Platforms. The copy of the notes that Pure Xbox and TrueAchievements republished lists PC, Mac, PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. The current version on cyberpunk.net also lists Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-release leak coverage had said Switch 2 was left out. TechPowerUp reported that Switch 2 was reportedly left out of mod support. The official page is the later word, but it's worth watching for further edits.
  • Not the full PC catalog. Not every PC mod will be supported, according to a leak-based report from GamingBible. Don't expect console parity with PC modding.
  • Achievements. The notes say achievements and trophies can't be earned on console while playing from a modded save. Modded saves get a dedicated icon in the Load Game menu. If you chase Gamerscore, keep an unmodded save around.
  • Xbox PC unknown. The warning is specifically about console. TrueAchievements speculates that Xbox PC might behave differently, as it reportedly did with The Witcher 3 Remastered. That is speculation, not confirmed behavior for Cyberpunk.

Other changes in Update 2.5

Some of these are console-specific and some are not.

  • Console FOV slider. It's added on consoles. The notes give no range or default.
  • Dual-wielding. A new Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree, plus four auxiliary perks, lets V dual-wield Power-category pistols and revolvers. It isn't a general dual-wield system.
  • New quests.
    • "Clampdown" is set before Edgerunners 2. It unlocks after "The Heist" and two Wakako gigs, once you wait for her message.
    • "Welcome to Paradise" is a Night City tour narrated by Richard Night. It needs "The Heist" and Street Cred level 15.
    • 12 Minor Arcana Tarot Cards extend "Fool on the Hill."
  • Edgerunners extras. A five-piece gear set based on King comes with "Clampdown." A new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, plays tracks from the Edgerunners series.
  • Customization.
    • Five outfit sets are sold by Maxiwear, Jinguji, NetWatch and IconAmerica vendors.
    • The NUS Infiltrator set is sold in Kabuki and Japantown.
    • Four TWINTONE skins for the Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech come via Twitch Drops.
    • Some NPC hairstyles open up, with some limited by body type.
    • Five Glamdocs let you restyle Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System.
  • Quality of life. Saves are grouped by playthrough, stashes get item filters, and Photo Mode gains Trading Card Game frames and dual-wield poses.
  • Fixes. The notes list a Switch 2 save-space error, a PS5 HDR settings bug, a stuck Delamain cab, Film Grain having no effect, an accidental crouch while scanning, and missing Third-Person Camera controller settings.

PC-side features that matter to Windows players

These are patch-wide and shouldn't be read as Xbox console features:

  • DLSS 4.5, with up to 6X Multi Frame Generation or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, plus the second-generation Transformer model.
  • Glasses-free 3D on compatible Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors, with a Motion Comfort setting.
  • An FSR Anti-Lag 2 toggle.
  • Removal of FSR 3 upscaling. FSR 2.1, FSR 4 and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation remain.
  • Improved HDR rendering and ray tracing optimizations.
  • MetalFX Frame Interpolation and Denoising on Mac.

If you tweak your FSR settings, note that FSR 3 upscaling will be gone after the patch.

Bottom line

For Xbox owners, the practical points are these:

  • The update is scheduled for October 22.
  • Play Anywhere looks like it's rolling out, with some inconsistency reported so far.
  • Console mods come with an achievement trade-off, so keep a clean save.

The main open question is how the Xbox PC version handles modded saves and achievements. TrueAchievements raises it, but nobody has confirmed an answer.
