Dragon's Dogma 2 is getting a big Steam graphics update on October 9, and PC players should read the fine print before they flip any switches. Capcom's official update notice lists four Steam-only graphics changes: FSR 3 Frame Generation added to the Graphics section of the Options menu, DLSS Super Resolution moved to version 4.5, DLSS Frame Generation changed to support multi-frame generation, and DLSS Frame Generation made usable even when DLSS Super Resolution is off. The PlayStation 5 Pro gets one line in comparison.

These four items are the whole of the PC graphics story. Taken together, they decouple things that used to be tied together.

  • DLSS Super Resolution 4.5. This is an upscaler version bump. Nvidia's developer page describes DLSS 4.5 as introducing Dynamic MFG and a second generation transformer model, and the second-generation model is credited with improving stability, anti-aliasing and visual clarity.
  • Multi-frame generation. DLSS Frame Generation can now work in the multi-frame mode, where the GPU generates several frames for each frame it renders.
  • Frame generation without Super Resolution. Until now, in this game's menus, generated frames sat on top of the upscaler. According to Capcom's wording, you can now use generated frames with the upscaler off.
  • FSR 3 Frame Generation. This gives AMD's frame-generation option its own entry in the options menu.

Capcom's notice doesn't publish frame-rate figures, image-quality comparisons or a GPU compatibility table for any of these options. Treat any performance claims you see before launch as unverified.

The hardware catch: "multi-frame" is not for everyone

Capcom doesn't name a graphics card for any of this, so the hardware boundaries come from Nvidia. Its developer page says DLSS Multi Frame Generation uses AI to generate up to five frames per rendered frame, powered by GeForce RTX 50 Series and RTX PRO Blackwell GPUs with fifth-generation Tensor Cores. Nvidia's consumer page lists the same limit in a support grid: Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation are shown only for the RTX 50 Series. The grid shows plain DLSS Frame Generation and Super Resolution covering other RTX generations.

In practice:

  1. RTX 50 Series owners are the ones who can use the multi-frame option. Primagames' read of the notice says it works "on supported GPUs", which matches Nvidia's boundaries.
  2. Owners of older RTX cards should expect the Super Resolution 4.5 upgrade to be the relevant change. Nvidia's consumer page shows DLSS Super Resolution across the RTX 20, 30, 40 and 50 Series.
  3. Radeon and other non-RTX owners get FSR 3 Frame Generation as the new option. Capcom hasn't published which cards it supports in this game, so check the in-game menu after patching.

The Steam listing for the base game is a useful reality check. As the Mixed report points out, it asks for a GeForce RTX 2070 Super or Radeon RX 6600 XT as the recommended card, and a GTX 1660 or RX 5500 XT with 8GB of VRAM as the minimum. Those requirements are tied to upscaled 1080p play and don't promise the new frame-generation modes will run on those cards.

PS5 Pro and consoles

The PlayStation 5 Pro line reads: "Added official support for Enhanced PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution)." That is a console-side feature and has nothing to do with the DLSS and FSR options on Steam. The Xbox Series X and S versions get no graphics item of their own in the notice, though the shared gameplay changes reach every platform.

The rest of the update

Most of Title Update 4.0 isn't graphics work. According to the notice and its coverage, the platform-wide additions include:

  • Hard Mode and a feature to carry over current saved data and start the game over from the beginning.
  • A new pawn specialization called Orienteer, plus thermal properties on some armor.
  • Rift crystals from a forgotten riftstone rising from 30 to 90, with players who have already used one receiving the difference when they start the game after the update.
  • Bug fixes covering pawns, the user interface and quests. Examples include pawns sometimes fighting barehanded despite having a weapon equipped and a quest, 'Ware the Corrupted Beasts, that could become uncompletable if progressed between 3:00 a.m. and dawn in game time.

Primagames also reports that the notice adds DualSense features to the PC version, including adaptive triggers, vibration and motion controls. That matters for PC players who use a PlayStation controller.

Is it October 8 or October 9?

Regional listings disagree. Capcom's own notice is dated 9.10.2026. The Mixed report says the Dark Arisen expansion's Steam listing showed October 8 in a US-store query, and that Capcom's launch-timing graphic puts the Americas in an October 8 column and the rest of the world in an October 9 column. That graphic wasn't independently verified here, and Capcom hasn't stated a launch time in plain text. Treat the day as time-zone dependent and don't assume a single global start time.

What to do before patching

  • Check your GPU generation so you know whether multi-frame generation will show up for you.
  • Update your graphics driver before testing. DLSS 4.5 and frame-generation features generally rely on current drivers (general industry guidance, not something Capcom's notice states).
  • Keep expectations modest on image quality. Frame generation adds latency and artifact trade-offs that vary by game, and no game-specific testing has been published yet.
  • Test each option separately. With the new decoupling, you can compare frame generation with Super Resolution on and off.

Bottom line

For PC players, this update is about flexibility: a newer upscaler model, an AMD frame-generation option, and frame generation that no longer depends on the upscaler. The multi-frame piece is limited to Nvidia's newest hardware. The PS5 Pro gets a single, console-specific PSSR line. Until benchmarks arrive, the real-world performance gain on any given PC is an open question.
