Escape From Playtime, Mob Entertainment’s upcoming co-op survival-horror game set in the Poppy Playtime universe, is accepting registrations for a future PC playtest. The game puts players in control of the Smiling Critters—small toy characters navigating the abandoned Playtime Co. factory—either solo or in online groups of up to four.

PC Gamer highlighted the new trailer during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct on September 20, while Mob Entertainment’s earlier announcement and the game’s Steam page establish the broader outline: a PC game built around repeated scavenging runs, shifting factory areas, stealth, puzzles, and cooperation under pressure.

The important qualification for interested players is that this is a waitlist or registration opportunity, not a publicly dated playable demo. The player.gg playtest listing currently lets users join the waitlist, but it does not specify when invitations will be sent, how many players will be selected, or what content the test will contain.

A smaller-scale co-op trip through Playtime Co.

Mob Entertainment describes Escape From Playtime as a 1–4-player online co-op survival-horror game. Players enter the factory on orders from an unidentified Voice, retrieve parts and resources, and return them for a larger construction effort whose purpose is deliberately unclear.

The co-op structure appears to be built around decisions that can go badly fast: whether to explore together, divide the search area, make noise, use a hiding place, or take a longer route around an enemy. Mob says the factory layouts will change between runs, which suggests the game is structured less like a single linear horror campaign and more like repeatable expeditions with changing routes and objectives.

Playing as the Smiling Critters also changes the scale of the setting. Mob calls this “Mini Mode”: players can crawl, jump, and climb through areas of Playtime Co. from a much smaller perspective. That creates an obvious design advantage for a horror game—ordinary rooms, hallways, storage spaces, and toy-factory equipment can become oversized obstacles or hiding places without requiring a completely different setting.

What has been confirmed so far

The official Mob Entertainment announcement says the initial Early Access release is planned to include:

  • The full eight-character Smiling Critter roster.
  • One starter zone.
  • A core enemy lineup.
  • Additional zones, characters, features, and refinements after launch, shaped in part by player feedback.

The Steam listing also identifies the game as an Early Access release and confirms single-player and online co-op support. It lists PC as the announced platform and describes a factory that includes classrooms, warehouses, testing labs, and connecting corridors.

Proximity voice chat is part of Mob’s stated design. In practical terms, that means communication may be useful for coordinating a group but could carry an in-game cost if enemies react to players’ voices. The studio has presented that feature as a source of tension rather than a routine social add-on, although the exact detection rules have not been detailed.

Do not treat the October 21 date as confirmed

PC Gamer’s report says Escape From Playtime will launch on Steam on October 21, 2026. However, Mob Entertainment’s official August announcement did not provide a release date, and the Steam store page still displays the game as “Coming soon.”

For now, the official record supports an Early Access plan but does not independently confirm October 21 as the release date. Players should therefore regard that date as reported rather than settled until Mob Entertainment updates its Steam listing or issues a formal release announcement.

That distinction matters most for anyone deciding whether to wait for a test invitation. Signing up can signal interest and may result in access to an unfinished build, but it is not a preorder, a guarantee of participation, or confirmation that the full game will arrive on a particular date.

What prospective testers should expect

A playtest is useful for seeing whether the basic loop—searching for resources, surviving hostile toys, moving through changing areas, and coordinating with friends—works in practice. It is not necessarily representative of the eventual Early Access build or the planned 1.0 release.

Players registering through the official playtest partner should be prepared for limited access, possible technical problems, incomplete content, balance changes, and confidentiality or feedback requirements if those are included with an invitation. Mob has positioned community feedback as part of the game’s Early Access development plan, so test participants may have an opportunity to influence refinements, but the publisher has not outlined a public testing schedule.

For PC horror fans, the clearest takeaway is straightforward: Escape From Playtime is a confirmed Steam-bound co-op project with a live test waitlist and a defined Early Access direction. The playable test’s timing and the game’s final release date remain the major details to watch.
