Forza Horizon 6 is available on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC through the Xbox app and Steam, with the Standard Edition included for active Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. But the launch date needs a firm correction: Playground Games’ official availability announcement is dated May 19, 2026, not September 30. This is an established release, not a new autumn launch.

Xbox Wire corroborates the May 19 arrival, listing console, PC, cloud and handheld access alongside the two eligible subscription plans. For Windows players, the useful question is therefore less “has it launched?” and more “which access route fits my devices?”

Game Pass access: mind the subscription boundaries

The launch announcement names Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass for the included Standard Edition. That should not be shortened to “every Game Pass subscription”—a small wording change that would create a substantial entitlement error.

Microsoft’s current Standard Edition listing clarifies the distinction:

  • PC Game Pass: includes access to the game on PC.
  • Game Pass Ultimate: includes the game and its cloud-play access.
  • Game Pass Essential or Premium: the store says a game purchase is required to stream this title.
  • Online console multiplayer: requires Essential, Premium or Ultimate, sold separately.

Cloud availability also remains limited to supported devices; the launch announcement does not promise compatibility with every screen that happens to have an internet connection.

Xbox app versus Steam: availability is not ownership portability

One important detail sits beyond the basic launch announcement. In its February feature briefing, Playground Games confirms that Forza Horizon 6 supports Xbox Play Anywhere. A digital purchase through Xbox or the Microsoft Store on Windows provides access on both console and PC, with the save profile and DLC entitlements carried across without another purchase. Steam purchases are explicitly excluded from that Play Anywhere entitlement.

The developer separately confirms cross-play and cross-save support between Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. These are different benefits: carrying progress between platforms does not mean one purchase grants a game license on every storefront.

For someone splitting their time between a Windows PC and an Xbox console, that distinction is worth settling before buying. The storefront is not merely a different checkout lane.

Premium Upgrade is not the full game

Playground Games’ launch post lists Standard, Deluxe and Premium full-game editions, plus a separate Premium Upgrade. The upgrade supplies additional content but requires the base game or an eligible Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription. It is not a standalone copy of Forza Horizon 6.

That matters particularly for subscribers: purchasing an add-on bundle and obtaining access to the underlying game are separate transactions.

Two useful checks before your first convoy

For newcomers, Playground Games’ First Drive guide supplies two practical details that can prevent unnecessary confusion:

  • Multiplayer unlocks after the first Tokyo race. An unavailable multiplayer option during the opening sequence is therefore not automatically a connection problem.
  • All three starter cars enter your garage regardless of your initial choice: the 1989 Nissan Silvia K’s, 1994 Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 and 1970 GMC Jimmy. There is no need to agonize over permanently missing the other two.

The same guide recommends adjusting assists and accessibility options in Settings and confirms that those choices can be changed later.

The bottom line: Forza Horizon 6’s Xbox and PC availability dates to May 19, 2026. For Windows readers joining now, the meaningful decisions are subscription eligibility, cloud access and whether a purchase needs to cover both PC and console—not a supposed September relaunch.

Update: Report points to January 2027 PS5 release (October 7, 2026)

Forza Horizon 6 will reportedly expand to PlayStation 5 on January 26, 2027, according to an October 7 report from MP1st citing billbil-kun’s reporting through Dealabs. That would be a release on an additional platform, not a revised launch date for the existing Xbox and Windows versions. The supplied report does not include official confirmation from Microsoft, Sony or Playground Games.

According to MP1st, the PS5 edition is expected to receive both digital and physical releases, with a reported US price of $70. The outlet also says an announcement is expected during the week of October 7, with preorders opening on announcement day. Both the release date and those retail details remain unconfirmed.

For Windows players considering a future move to PS5—or playing alongside friends there—the report leaves important entitlement and multiplayer questions unanswered. It does not establish whether the proposed PS5 version would join the existing cross-play and cross-save arrangements, or whether any previously purchased content would transfer. Existing Xbox and PC benefits should therefore not be assumed to extend to PlayStation; those details require confirmation before a purchase decision.
