The Xbox Store listing and the PlayStation Store both give the release date as September 29, 2026, which matches the schedule THQ Nordic published in April. RPG Site's "out now" report ran the next morning.
This isn't a new game. It's a 23-year-old German RPG, famous for being hard, rebuilt for controllers and sold as a complete package. For Xbox owners, what matters is which features the store listing actually promises, what it costs, and how it fits into THQ Nordic's trilogy rollout.
What's in the "Complete" package
The name is literal. According to the Xbox Store, Gothic II Complete Classic brings together the excitement of Gothic II and the expansion Night of the Raven.
Some history helps here. Gothic II is a 2002 action role-playing game developed by Piranha Bytes for Microsoft Windows, and it follows the first Gothic. It was released for Microsoft Windows in 2002 in Germany, in 2003 in the rest of Europe and North America. English speakers waited even longer for the expansion: the game was available in the German language only, the English version only being released in 2005, as part of the Gothic II Gold package. Night of the Raven focuses on further enlarging the story already presented in the original Gothic II game by adding a world called Jharkendar and additional attributes, items and weapons.
The store description on PlayStation makes these claims (they're marketing numbers, not measured playtimes):
- More than 100 quests and over 50 hours of gameplay
- Over 500 individual characters, each with a daily routine
- Three guilds to join, each with its own allies, enemies and skills
- More than 200 weapons and magical spells
- Several ways to complete quests, pitched as good replay value
The story starts right after the first game. You tore down the magical barrier and freed the prisoners of the Valley of Mines. Now those ex-convicts are loose in the wilderness around Khorinis, bandits are attacking travellers, and the town militia can't keep up.
Section summary: You get the base game plus its expansion in one purchase. That's the version most longtime fans consider definitive.
What the Xbox Store listing promises
This is the part that matters most to Xbox players. On the US Xbox Store, THQ Nordic GmbH is listed as developer and THQ Nordic as publisher, and the game carries these features:
| Feature | Listed on Xbox Store |
|---|---|
| Platforms | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming |
| Optimized for Xbox Series X|S | Yes |
| Smart Delivery | Yes |
| Achievements | Yes |
| Cloud saves | Yes |
| Mode | Single player |
| Supported languages | 7 |
| Rating | Mature 17+ |
Two points are easy to misread:
- Smart Delivery means one purchase covers both console generations. If you buy on Xbox One now and move to a Series X|S later, you won't pay twice.
- Cloud play is not a Game Pass inclusion. The listing says the game is cloud-playable with Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, but a purchase is still required. A Game Pass tier lets you stream a copy you own. It doesn't give you the game.
The listing doesn't say what "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" means in practice: no frame rate, resolution or performance modes are stated. Treat the badge as a label, not a spec sheet, until players or reviewers test it.
The PlayStation listing for comparison: PS4 and PS5 versions, DualSense vibration and trigger effects on PS5, voice acting in English, German, Polish and Russian, and on-screen text in eight languages.
Section summary: On Xbox you get Smart Delivery, achievements, cloud saves and cloud streaming. Cloud play needs both a purchase and a Game Pass tier, and no performance details have been published.
Price: dollars, euros, pounds
RPG Site says Gothic II Complete Classic is priced at $29.99 on consoles. The US Xbox and PlayStation store listings both show $29.99. THQ Nordic's April schedule gave the European price as €29.99. In the UK, TheXboxHub reports the game is available on Xbox Series X|S (Xbox Store), Xbox One and PlayStation for £24.99.
That's the same pricing THQ Nordic used for the Switch version in 2023: $29.99, €29.99 and £24.99. Prices vary by region and sales change, so check your local store before you buy.
It's not the first console version
The official game site still describes this as the game's first time on a console, but that referred to the Switch. THQ Nordic released Gothic II Complete Classic on Nintendo Switch on November 29, 2023, and that version included Night of the Raven too. The site's Switch patch notes describe crash fixes, including one when leaving Xardas's tower, and a fix for a weapon-duplication bug in the stacking system.
That history is worth knowing. The console adaptation has already been through several rounds of patches on Nintendo's hardware. That doesn't guarantee the Xbox version launches clean, but THQ Nordic isn't starting from scratch.
The trilogy rollout
This launch is the second of three. THQ Nordic's April 14, 2026 announcement set the schedule:
- Gothic Classic – July 28, 2026 – PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
- Gothic II Complete Classic – September 29, 2026 – PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
- Gothic III Classic – November 24, 2026 – PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
All three were listed at €29.99. Note the platform shift for the third game: RPG Site confirms that Gothic III Classic launches on November 24 for PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox One isn't on the list, so if you're still on last-gen Xbox, the trilogy stops after part two. The November date is still a plan, not a release.
RPG Site also notes that both Gothic Classic and Gothic II Complete Classic are now available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. Gothic Classic is also available on iOS.
The timing isn't a coincidence. In the same April announcement, THQ Nordic said anyone who pre-ordered Gothic 1 Remake on PlayStation or Xbox stores would get Gothic Classic digitally for free, and it gave the remake a June 5, 2026 launch date. Putting the classics on console while the remake is out is a clear play to get new players into the whole series.
Should you buy it on Xbox?
A few points to weigh:
- For it: $29.99 gets you the whole game plus its expansion, with Smart Delivery, achievements and cloud saves. For Xbox players who never touched the PC original, this is the easiest way in.
- Against it: This is a 2002 game with a reputation for difficulty. Early enemies are brutal and the game won't guide you much. The store listing doesn't say whether visuals or systems have been updated beyond control and interface changes.
- For PC players: This console release doesn't change anything for Windows owners. The original game and expansion have been PC titles for more than two decades, and nothing in the materials announces a new PC edition.
- Unknown: No Xbox performance details have been published. If frame rate matters to you, wait for player impressions.
Gothic II has always been a game about starting at the bottom and earning your place. The Xbox version gives a new group of console players the chance to do that, with the achievements to prove it.
Bottom line: Gothic II Complete Classic is out now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5. It includes the full game and Night of the Raven, costs $29.99 in the US (€29.99 and £24.99 elsewhere), and supports Smart Delivery and cloud saves on Xbox. It isn't in the Game Pass library. Gothic III Classic is scheduled for November 24, but not on Xbox One.
