Which platforms are confirmed
Rockstar's product page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date. Xbox's US listing shows the platform as Xbox Series X|S and gives the same date. Sony's PlayStation page also carries a pre-order listing, but the portion captured for this report doesn't show its PS4 wording. I'm not quoting a Sony statement on PS4.
The Xbox page needs one caution. Its raw text includes generic purchase-selector labels for Xbox One and Windows 10/11. Those look like template boilerplate, not a product claim. The page's own platform field lists only Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar's support page names only the two current consoles. I wouldn't read the template labels as an Xbox One or Windows version.
The accurate wording is that these are the announced launch platforms. Rockstar hasn't said it will never release the game anywhere else.
What this means for PS4 and Xbox One owners
- No announced version. None of the official material reviewed lists a PS4 or Xbox One edition.
- No workaround is announced. Nothing reviewed describes backwards compatibility or cloud streaming as a way to play GTA VI on older consoles. Don't assume one exists.
- GTA V went the other way. Wikipedia's platform history shows GTA V reached PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, then PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, Windows in April 2015, and PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in March 2022. GTA VI skips the previous console generation entirely.
The PC question
PC readers will want to know where Windows stands. Rockstar's product page, the Xbox listing's platform field and the support page all omit a PC edition. No PC date has been announced.
Diario AS and its MeriStation site point to GTA V as a precedent. That game reached PC about 19 months after its original console release. That's historical context only. It isn't a forecast, and Rockstar hasn't committed to a PC version or a timeframe. Treat any "it'll probably come to PC" claim as speculation until Rockstar says otherwise.
Xbox Series X|S timing and storage
Rockstar's support page says digital pre-orders will be able to begin pre-loading on November 10 at local midnight. The details differ by platform:
- PS5: Digital pre-load begins at midnight local time in your respective time zone on November 10, 2026.
- Xbox Series X|S: Digital pre-load begins globally at 12 a.m. GMT on November 10, 2026. That is 7 p.m. ET on November 9, according to Game Informer.
- Physical copies: The physical version is a box containing a download code, and it will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading. A disc will not be included in the box.
- Storage: gHacks reports, citing Rockstar's Newswire post, that the preload needs up to 212 GB "depending on your device." The same report says Rockstar has not listed separate final install sizes for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
Based on those reports, Xbox owners should check their free space before November 10. That applies especially to Series S owners on the base internal SSD, though Rockstar hasn't published a per-console size. I'm not claiming a specific install size for either console.
Takeaways
- GTA VI's announced launch platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release.
- No PS4, Xbox One or PC version has been announced.
- Pre-load starts November 10 and can need up to 212 GB.
- A PC release is unconfirmed. GTA V's later PC arrival is precedent, not a promise.
