What happened
Windows Central reports that Incursion (PC only) replaces the character models for the game's main cast. The outlet says the cast can be swapped for Noble Team from Halo: Reach, with Master Chief taking the Noble 6 slot. It also says Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine characters and a Star Wars Stormtrooper are available.
The writer says the mod author is known for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 mods. Windows Central's captions describe screenshots showing Master Chief alongside Halo: Reach Spartans Emile, Kat, and Carter in the game.
The writer also says other character swaps may be possible, including Tai. He explicitly hasn't tested that, so treat it as unconfirmed.
What the Nexus Mods page says
The download is listed as "INCURSION - Skin Select Menu" and is a selector, not a single skin. The Nexus Mods listing says it adds a Skins tab to the Settings menu so players can swap skins for Marcus, Dom, Lucas and Mags, either from the main menu or in-game.
Other details from the listing:
- It lets players choose skins without manually swapping files or reinstalling different character mods.
- It is meant as a foundation for more INCURSION character packs and community-made skins.
- The original upload was on 6 October 2026, the game's worldwide launch day. That makes the mod a launch-day arrival rather than something that appeared days later.
The listing text only names the four character slots. The specific Halo mapping, such as Chief replacing Noble 6, comes from Windows Central's reporting and screenshots, not from the listing description.
How to install it
Nexus Mods' instructions broadly match Windows Central's walkthrough. The selector depends on skin packs, so the order matters:
- Download the latest version of an INCURSION skin pack. Check each pack's own page for extra requirements.
- Unzip the archive somewhere safe.
- Find the Gears of War: E-Day installation folder. The location depends on whether you installed through Steam or the Xbox app on PC. In Steam, a Manage > Browse local files option can open it. A sibling INCURSION mod page uses that route.
- Copy the archive's contents into that folder and allow files to merge if prompted.
- Launch the game normally. A Skins tab should appear in Settings.
Don't assume one universal install path. Nexus's own listings show at least one other mod giving an Xbox-app path under C:\XboxGames. That's a creator-specific example, not a rule for every system.
Caveats
- Fan-made. Nothing in the evidence says Microsoft, Xbox, Halo Studios or The Coalition produced or endorsed these crossover assets. Windows Central's writer says he hopes for official skins later, which suggests none exist.
- PC only. Xbox Wire says the game is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. That list is from The Coalition's announcement, and this mod targets the PC versions.
- Online use is unaddressed. The pages reviewed say nothing about multiplayer compatibility, anti-cheat or account-safety implications. Be cautious about using mods in online modes, and don't treat this mod as cleared for them.
- Mod permissions. The author's listing says the files can't be uploaded elsewhere, so download only from the author's official Nexus page.
- Untested claims. The Windows Central writer didn't test the other launch-period mods. Anything those mods say about performance is the creator's claim, not a measured result.
The wider launch-week mod scene
Nexus Mods already shows an early catalog. It includes a separate INCURSION split-screen mod from the same author, whose page describes it as an experimental test release. It also includes performance and Engine.ini tweaks, field-of-view and ultrawide fixes, HUD toggles, and a Vortex extension for E-Day. The Vortex extension is the more practical sign that this scene is maturing.
I'd read Windows Central's "other mods don't do much" as one writer's impression, not a finding about the whole catalog. Plenty of these tools do real work. They just aren't as photogenic as Master Chief in a Gears cutscene.
Some listings also advertise anti-cheat bypass launchers. Those are a different category from cosmetic skins, and this article doesn't cover them. Installing unofficial files carries its own risk, so check any mod's page and permissions first.
Bottom line
Incursion is a launch-day cosmetic mod that gives PC players a Skins menu and a growing set of character replacements, including Halo characters. If you try it, remember that the selector alone doesn't supply the skins: you need an INCURSION skin pack as well. Whether the crossover is "right at home" is the Windows Central writer's opinion, and your taste may vary.
