What the patch is
Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games list build 2153883 for Steam, Epic Games Store and Windows PC. The developer's overview describes PC-specific fixes, expanded device support and the latest upscaling technologies from NVIDIA and Intel.
The full patch overview, as published by the developer, is:
- NVIDIA upsampling updated to DLSS 5.
- A new DLSS 5 Neural Rendering option for supported NVIDIA GPUs.
- An updated Intel XeSS version.
- Support for Intel XeSS Multi-Frame Generation.
- A fix for certain graphics options saving incorrectly in some scenarios.
- Support for Steam Deck OLED and Steam Machine, including optimized graphics settings and a virtual keyboard.
- Support for NVIDIA RTX Spark Laptop.
- Updated minimum-GPU-driver notifications.
- Less need to restart the game when changing certain Frame Generation settings.
Steam Deck OLED and Steam Machine
The notes name two Valve devices and describe the benefit in a single line. They do not say which settings were tuned. They also give no frame-rate targets and don't explain how the virtual keyboard is opened.
Two limits follow from the wording:
- Steam Deck OLED only. The notes don't say that the original LCD Steam Deck gets the same device-specific treatment. LCD owners can still install the patch, but shouldn't assume a dedicated preset exists for their model.
- Other handhelds. Nothing in the notes promises a tailored preset for other PC handhelds.
The practical gain is probably convenience. A virtual keyboard and a preset made for the hardware cut down on fiddling with text entry and menus on a couch or handheld. That is my reading, not a measured result. Without published numbers, treat the optimized settings as a starting point and check the game's options yourself.
DLSS 5 is a separate item
It would be easy to assume the Valve support and DLSS 5 belong together. They don't, and the patch doesn't link them.
- Neural Rendering is off by default.
- The notes say it requires a supported NVIDIA GPU, currently an RTX 50 Series card, and GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64 or newer.
- WB Games' enablement steps: open Game Settings, then Display Settings. Set Upscale Type to NVIDIA DLSS, then turn Neural Rendering on. The support page also lists Shift+Alt+B as a toggle while Upscale Type is set to NVIDIA DLSS.
- NVIDIA says the feature is available for RTX 50 Series desktop and laptop GPUs, RTX Spark PCs and GeForce NOW Ultimate.
The patch does not say DLSS 5 Neural Rendering runs on either Valve device, so don't expect it there.
NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as a stage that changes how lighting and materials look. It is a visual rendering feature, not simply a higher-frame-rate switch. Avalanche says it tuned the feature to boost environmental detail while preserving character identity. NVIDIA published its own benchmark claims, including figures for the RTX 5090. Those are vendor numbers, not independent testing. One roundup found no independent Hogwarts Legacy numbers yet for the official update, so treat performance claims cautiously.
Some reaction has been skeptical. GamingBible noted that DLSS 5 isn't popular with everyone, while saying Avalanche's tuning aims to avoid an over-processed look. Whether the result suits you is a matter of taste.
Intel XeSS
The patch updates XeSS and adds Multi-Frame Generation. It doesn't say which Intel GPUs are compatible, and it gives no XeSS version number or performance figure. Check the in-game menu and Intel's current requirements before relying on it.
Generated frames are not the same as frames the game renders conventionally. They can raise the displayed frame rate, but they don't cut input latency the way native rendering would. Record your frame generation setting alongside any comparison you make.
What to do after updating
- Confirm the update installed. The build number is 2153883 on Steam, Epic Games Store and Windows PC.
- Open the graphics options and re-apply any setting that previously wouldn't stick. The save bug is fixed, but your old choices may not have persisted.
- If you use an RTX 50 Series card, check that your driver is 616.64 or newer, then follow the enablement steps above.
- On Steam Deck OLED or Steam Machine, look at the new settings and adjust to taste. The notes give no performance guarantees.
- If you use frame generation, note that fewer restarts are now needed for some changes. The notes don't say which options.
Bottom line
For Valve hardware owners, the patch brings official, device-specific support with optimized settings and a virtual keyboard. The details are thin: no setting list, no performance targets. For everyone else, the headline items are DLSS 5 on RTX 50 Series GPUs and XeSS Multi-Frame Generation, plus a useful fix for graphics settings that failed to save. Check the requirements for your hardware before you count on any of them.
