Adventurers and glowing companions overlook a picturesque fantasy village beneath snowy mountains and cascading waterfalls.
Luma Island is heading to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 later in 2026, with cross-platform multiplayer connecting both consoles to PC. Feel Free Games announced the expansion on September 24, opening console wishlists but leaving the exact launch date unannounced. The studio says cross-play will be available from day one—not merely pencilled in for a subsequent update.

For PC players, the important change is the wider pool of potential co-op partners. Friends will be able to join the same island without first agreeing on which hardware to buy. Lead developer Bram Eisenhardt also confirmed the three-platform multiplayer plan in his announcement on PlayStation Blog.

Four players, three platforms

The developer’s press kit specifies one-to-four-player online co-op. That means solo play or a group consisting of the host and up to three friends—not four additional guests. The PC edition launched on November 20, 2024, and remains available through Steam.

Microsoft’s Xbox Store independently corroborates the console multiplayer features, listing online co-op for two to four players, Xbox cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform co-op. Its supported hardware entry names Xbox Series X|S, not Xbox One.

There is also a practical subscription requirement: the Xbox listing says online console multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, sold separately. That is a requirement for playing online on Xbox; it should not be mistaken for an announcement that Luma Island itself is included in the Game Pass catalogue.

The distinction matters when planning a mixed-platform group. Cross-play addresses who can join whom, but the announcements do not establish cross-progression, transferable saves or shared purchases between platforms. Nor do they provide the account-linking or invitation procedure. Those details remain separate questions rather than automatic benefits of the cross-play label.

An established PC game, not a brand-new debut

Feel Free Games reports that more than 800,000 players have played Luma Island on PC. That is a developer-reported audience figure, not an independently audited sales total. The studio’s press kit also describes its Steam reception as “Very Positive” and records a substantial earlier content update, Luma Island: Pirates, released in June 2025.

The console announcement therefore follows an existing PC release and subsequent development. However, those milestones do not establish that every PC feature or content detail will be identical on consoles at launch. The press kit still labels the console release date simply as coming soon.

What console players can expect

Eisenhardt describes a game that starts with an old caravan and a rundown farm, then branches into building, growing crops, raising animals and exploration. Beyond the homestead are forests, mountains, jungles, caves and ancient temples containing puzzles and traps. Magical Luma companions hatch from discovered eggs and accompany players on their travels.

The official announcement lists eight professions: archaeologist, blacksmith, brewer, cook, fisherman, jeweler, shipwright and treasure hunter. It also describes three difficulty settings:

  • Cozy: relaxed exploration with optional combat.
  • Adventure: a balance of action and discovery.
  • Hero: a tougher challenge.

The studio says there are no stamina meters or inventory caps—a design choice intended to let players explore and work at their own pace.

The useful takeaway

The concrete news is a forthcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release with online cross-play for up to four people, joining the existing PC edition. Console wishlisting is open, but the announcement supplies neither an exact launch day nor console pricing. For Windows players with console-owning friends, this is a meaningful expansion of co-op access; the finer details of saves and joining sessions still need clarification before launch.
