A woman presents a cloud-based slideshow on a large tablet to colleagues in a bright meeting room.
Microsoft's roadmap lists a new viewing option for OneDrive on iPad. It is meant for people who show PDFs from a tablet. The entry is roadmap ID 573697. The Microsoft 365 roadmap shows what Microsoft has in the works but is not meant to pin down exact dates. Treat the December 2026 date as a target, not a promise.

What Microsoft says is coming

According to the roadmap entry, a Presentation button will appear in the OneDrive PDF viewer on iPad. Tapping it opens a focused, view-only mode. In that mode, free gesture scrolling between pages is blocked. The aim is to stop accidental page changes while you present. You also don't have to hand the file to another app first.

The entry's stated boundaries are:

  • Product: OneDrive
  • Platform: iOS app, on iPad only. It is explicitly not available on iPhone.
  • Status: In development
  • Release ring: General Availability
  • Cloud instance: Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant)
  • Estimated general availability: December 2026

The Microsoft 365 roadmap page itself says its information is subject to change. It also says entries are removed once a feature ships, is cancelled or is postponed. The page text I retrieved did not show the entry itself. The details above come from the submitted roadmap metadata.

Why this matters

Anyone who has shown a long PDF from a tablet knows the problem. You hold the iPad, gesture to make a point, and the document lurches three pages forward in front of the room. A mode that disables free scrolling is a small fix for that. It also keeps the file in OneDrive.

That benefit is my inference from the stated goal. Microsoft has not made claims about meeting or video-call scenarios.

What the entry doesn't say

The roadmap is short, so several things are unknown. I won't guess at them:

  • Navigation: which controls remain for moving between pages, such as buttons or taps.
  • Exiting: how you leave the mode.
  • Interface: whether controls hide automatically.
  • Accounts: whether it works with personal and work or school accounts.
  • Requirements: any minimum iPadOS or app version.
  • Rollout: any admin controls, preview program or licensing requirement.

Only the iPad scope is confirmed. "iOS" in the platform field should not be read as iPhone support.

How it fits with existing OneDrive PDF tools

OneDrive already has a set of PDF features. Microsoft Learn lists the following free ones:

  • Annotation and markup
  • Page rotation
  • Table-of-contents navigation
  • Page bookmarks on iOS/iPadOS and Android

Extracting and merging PDF pages are premium features. Microsoft's page was last updated in August 2025. It does not mention presentation mode, so it can't confirm this feature.

Other tools already cover PDF presenting on iPad. One example is the third-party vBookz Slides app, which offers a PDF presentation mode with on-screen arrows for page switching. Microsoft's pitch is convenience. You stay in the app where the file already lives.

What to do now

  1. Treat this as planned, not available.
  2. Don't build a December presentation workflow around it yet.
  3. Watch OneDrive iOS release notes and the roadmap entry. If the date slips or the entry disappears, that is the signal.
  4. If you need a locked, swipe-proof presentation today, use a dedicated presenting app or export to a slide format.

Bottom line

It is a modest feature with a clear use. Microsoft hasn't yet said how it will work. Judge it when it ships, and expect a December 2026 target that may change.
