Lucid Labs' perspective puzzler Possessions is out on Xbox and Windows PC, and the practical details matter more than the awards blurb. The Xbox Store lists it as cloud playable with Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, but a game purchase is still required. Lucid Labs released it on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC through the Microsoft Store.

Sunlight fills a cozy living room where strings connect a wooden cat sculpture to a playful arrangement of books and objects. What launched, and what it costs

The Xbox Store's UK listing shows a release date of 11/3/2026. That makes it a November 3 launch, a day before the press release went out. Microsoft's own April developer spotlight said only that the game was coming to Xbox and PC "this summer." The date slipped, so don't repeat the summer estimate.

Pricing depends on region:

  • United States: $14.99, according to the press release. The Xbox Store listing the evidence packet captured shows the same price.
  • United Kingdom: £12.49 on the Xbox Store.

Lucid Labs is both developer and publisher.

Play Anywhere, handhelds and Game Pass

The headline feature is Xbox Play Anywhere. One purchase covers both Xbox and PC. The store listing also shows these capabilities:

  • Optimised for Xbox Series X|S, with 15 supported languages and a Handheld Optimised label.
  • 4K Ultra HD, 60 fps+, Smart Delivery, Xbox achievements and Xbox cloud saves.
  • Single-player only.

The studio's own launch note says the Handheld Optimized label means it "plays nicely on handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally." That is the studio's claim. I haven't seen any hardware testing or performance data.

Game Pass is the point most likely to confuse people. Cloud play is available to Game Pass members who also own the game. It is not a "free with subscription" title. Buy it first, then stream it if you want to.

The game itself

In each room, a family's belongings look broken and scattered. You look at objects from different angles until they appear to be in the right place, learning the story of the family in the house. The story is told without dialogue or text. The mechanic is simple: you rotate the room until the pieces line up.

The Xbox edition has 43 rooms. That figure comes from the press release. Lucid Labs' own demo page says the full game has all 43, across four chapters. That page also says the free demo has only a handful of rooms, so you can try a few before paying.

I couldn't verify whether the 43 rooms are all new or exclusive to this edition. The studio's press kit also describes the Xbox and PC version as 43 handcrafted rooms. I haven't verified how many rooms the original Apple Arcade release had.

From Apple Arcade to Xbox

The game first came out on Apple Arcade in 2019. The Xbox and PC version was built through Microsoft's Developer Acceleration Program. In that April spotlight, founder Chirag Chopra said the team was treating the game "not just as a port" but as a flagship release. His launch quote adds one specific detail: the controls were rebuilt for a gamepad, down to how the D-pad turns a room. No control map or accessibility feature list has been published, so I can't say how well it plays on a controller.

How to read the "award-winning" label

The headline is technically supportable but easy to oversell. The studio's press kit lists Indie Game of the Year at India GDC 2019 as a win. It lists the Ludicious Zurich and IMGA entries as nominations, and Cologne Game Mixer as an official selection. The Xbox PC page also doesn't cover how the game runs on any particular PC hardware.

Should you buy it?

If you like short, quiet puzzlers, there's little to lose. The demo is free. Play Anywhere means one purchase covers your console and PC. The cost is modest. The main caveats are that Game Pass doesn't include the game, and that nobody has published performance data. Treat the studio's handheld and 4K claims as claims until independent testing appears.
