Silver Pines is out today, 8 October 2026. For Windows and Xbox readers, the useful details are the Play Anywhere badge, the PC hardware requirements and the store-by-store buying picture. The survival-horror pitch matters less.

TheXboxHub reports that the game is available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, with Play Anywhere support. Microsoft's own Xbox Wire "Next Week on Xbox" roundup for 5–9 October lists the game for 8 October with the Xbox Play Anywhere label.

A lone man stands in a rain-soaked, moonlit town, framed by glowing motel signs and gaming hardware overlays. What the game is

Private investigator Red Walker arrives in Silver Pines, a half-abandoned town, on a job to find Eddie Velvet, a vanished musician. The Xbox Store listing says the case exposes a dark past and sends Walker into a "nightmarish descent".

Publisher Team17 and developer Wych Elm describe it as classic survival horror with Metroidvania-style navigation. Locked doors and hidden paths open up as you find better tools and weapons. Inventory is limited, and the listings say every bullet, bottle of medicine and upgrade matters.

All of that is the publisher's own description, not independent testing. I haven't found review coverage or performance testing, so I can't say how the game plays or runs.

The visual style is also worth knowing about:

  • Wych Elm's Steam announcements describe a 2.5D perspective, hand-drawn rotoscoped animation and a neo-noir look.
  • The studio says all character animation is rotoscoped. The team filmed itself in costume and drew over the footage frame by frame.
  • It adds that the world art starts from photo textures that are painted over and rendered as 2D sprites in a 3D space.
  • PCGamingWiki lists the engine as Unity 6.

What Play Anywhere means here

The Xbox listing for Silver Pines carries the Xbox Play Anywhere badge. It also shows the game as optimized for Xbox Series X|S and playable on PC, handhelds and cloud.

Microsoft's Play Anywhere page sets out the rules:

  • It applies only to digital purchases. Games must be bought through the Xbox Store or Windows Store, or via a digital code from a participating retailer. Discs don't count.
  • You get the Xbox console and Windows 10/11 PC versions at no extra cost. Supported handhelds are Windows 11 gaming handhelds.
  • Saves, add-ons and achievements follow you between devices. Microsoft says a single shared set of Gamerscore and achievements is awarded.
  • On Xbox, installs appear as "Ready to Install" under "My Games and Apps". On Windows, they appear in "My Library" in the Xbox app.
  • You can only be signed into the same game on one device at a time.
  • A PC needs the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition update or later, and the console needs its latest update.

Play Anywhere is an Xbox and Microsoft Store benefit. Nothing in the evidence suggests a Steam or Epic purchase unlocks the Xbox version, or that an Xbox purchase gives you a Steam key. Steam lists its own features separately: Steam Cloud, Steam Achievements and Family Sharing. Pick your storefront before you pay.

Windows PC requirements

Steam publishes these requirements. They are the publisher's figures, not benchmarks. The page states no target resolution or frame rate.

MinimumRecommended
OSWindows 10 (64-bit)Windows 11 (64-bit)
CPUIntel Core i5-4460 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
RAM8 GB8 GB
GPUGTX 660 Ti or Radeon R9 270XGTX 770 or Radeon R9 380
DirectX1212
Storage5 GB5 GB

The bar is low. The recommended CPUs and GPUs are several years old, and 5 GB is a small install by modern standards. The recommended tier names Windows 11, though it doesn't state that Windows 11 is required.

Steam also says a demo is available. Wych Elm's announcement says the demo stays up until 8 October. Check whether it is still listed before you rely on it.

Pricing and Game Pass

  • Price: The studio's announcement gave launch pricing of £21.99, $24.99 or €24.99 on Steam and consoles. The Deluxe Edition, with the artbook and soundtrack, is £27.99, $31.99 or €31.99.
  • Discount: At the time of capture, Steam showed a 10% promotion running to 22 October. It put the base game at $22.49 and the Deluxe Edition at $28.79. The Xbox US page showed $22.49 as well, with a sale ending in 14 days. Prices and promotions change, so check your own region.
  • Game Pass: TheXboxHub says the game isn't on Game Pass at launch. The Xbox listing says it is cloud playable with Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, but a game purchase is required. That isn't the same as being in the Game Pass catalog.
  • Ratings: Team17 lists PEGI 16. The Xbox US page shows Mature 17+ for violence, blood and strong language. Ratings vary by region and ratings body.

Platform details that disagree

TheXboxHub names PC via the Epic Games Store. Team17's press hub lists Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The Steam and Xbox listings are confirmed in the primary sources I could read.

Other outlets, including VGChartz and Player.one, report an Epic Games Store version too, and some list Nintendo Switch 2 as well. I couldn't confirm either from Team17's own page. Epic and Switch 2 buyers should check those storefronts directly.

Some aggregator pages show a 31 December 2026 date. That conflicts with Xbox, Steam and Team17, which all say 8 October, so I'd treat the 31 December date as placeholder data.

Bottom line

Silver Pines is a small-scale launch with a clear Windows angle. If you buy the Xbox or Microsoft Store digital version, you get console and Windows PC play under Play Anywhere. If you buy on Steam, you get a separate PC licence. The hardware requirements are modest on paper, but until real-world performance reports appear, they are the publisher's word and not a guarantee.
