Stylized fighters clash beneath cherry blossoms as glowing computer windows float across a vivid blue sky.
Capcom's Street Fighter 6 characters Ryu and Chun-Li are coming to Desktop Mate as paid add-ons, and Windows users get a desktop mascot that can shove their windows around. The Ryu and Chun-Li DLC packs launch together on Thursday, November 12, 2026. The developer, Infinite Loop, announced them on November 6. Its press release lists the price as 2,200 yen (tax included) for each character. It gives no US-dollar price, so this article doesn't convert it.

This isn't a Windows update. It's a small PC-utility story, but it comes with a mechanic that touches your open windows, so it deserves a proper look.

Stylized fighters clash beneath cherry blossoms as glowing computer windows float across a vivid blue sky. What Desktop Mate is

Desktop Mate is a Steam application for Windows and Mac. Steam lists it as a free-to-play title in the Utilities and Animation & Modeling genres. Its characters sit on your windows, play with your mouse cursor, and respond to head pats. Steam currently lists 45 downloadable add-ons for it, and Ryu and Chun-Li are the newest two. The base app is free and the characters are sold separately. Each DLC page says the content needs the base Desktop Mate application on Steam to run.

The headline feature: "Move Action"

Infinite Loop calls the new mechanic "Move Action" and says it is a first for Desktop Mate. Steam describes it as a feature that lets you blast windows away. According to the developer's announcement, it works like this:

  • You trigger it by clicking a character rapidly. It does not run during normal use.
  • Ryu fires a Hadouken. A window hit by the projectile is pushed in the direction he is facing.
  • Chun-Li uses Spinning Bird Kick. She advances and pushes windows ahead of her.
  • Clicking even faster escalates the move to a Level 3 Super Art. Ryu uses Shin Shoryuken and Chun-Li uses Soten Ranka.
  • Windows that get hit bounce off the screen edge and eventually stop.
  • The developer says the data inside a window is not affected.

The Street Fighter 6-style mechanics are mostly cosmetic. Steam lists "OD versions", a Drive Gauge, Burnout and Stun among the effects. The announcement describes them this way. Some special moves become golden-aura Overdrive versions that use up the Drive Gauge. When the gauge is empty, the character enters a gray-aura Burnout state. Clicking during Burnout makes the character collapse in a stun, and the character recovers after a while.

There is a Mac-only permission detail. On Mac, moves only hit a window if Desktop Mate is allowed in the OS permission settings. The announcement doesn't describe any equivalent step on Windows.

Windows and Mac compatibility

The listing gives these supported systems:

ItemWindowsMac (open beta)
OSWindows 10/11 (64-bit)macOS Tahoe 26 or later
RAM8 GB8 GB
ProcessorIntel Core i5-8250U or AMD Ryzen 3 3300U, or betterApple A18 Pro or M1, or better
GraphicsIntel UHD Graphics 730 or Radeon Vega 8, or betterNot listed separately
Storage500 MB free500 MB free

The developer says Windows needs a GPU or a CPU with integrated graphics. The Mac version needs Apple silicon, and Intel Macs are not supported. The requirements are for the Desktop Mate product listing. The announcement doesn't give separate figures for each DLC.

Move Action works on both platforms, Multi-Character doesn't

Move Action is advertised for both Windows and Mac. The Multi-Character feature is different. It shows two characters on the desktop at once, so you can put Ryu and Chun-Li side by side. Users can also pair either character with the free default character, Aierutan, or with other DLC characters, and set each one's size. Steam's community post describes the mode as showing two characters on your desktop at once. The developer says Multi-Character is not supported on the Mac open beta.

Voices come from the game. The developer says both characters use their in-game Street Fighter 6 voice lines, in Japanese or English, and you can pick the language per character in settings.

Practical considerations

  • Availability: The Steam store pages are live for wishlisting, but the add-ons go on sale on November 12, not before.
  • Expect desktop disruption: The effect only triggers on rapid clicking, and the developer says it won't interfere with work normally. Still, rapid-clicking on a character will move your windows on purpose.
  • Unverified claims: The "no data impact" claim and the "won't interfere with work" claim come from the developer. They haven't been independently tested. The announcement says nothing about how moved windows behave in specific apps, such as full-screen or multi-monitor setups.
  • Cost: Buying both characters costs 4,400 yen before any bundle or discount.

The takeaway

This is a promotional announcement from the developer, so read the feature descriptions as marketing. Even so, the Windows details are clear: it supports Windows 10 and 11, the system requirements are modest, and both characters are separate paid add-ons to a free base app. The feature gap between Windows and the Mac beta is also clear. If you run Desktop Mate and like Street Fighter, it's a novelty worth a look on launch day. If you only want a tidy desktop, you can skip it.
