A cloaked rider surfs across turquoise waves in a fantastical landscape, beneath a floating “Sword of the Sea” game card.
Sword of the Sea has an Xbox Store product page, even though developer Giant Squid has never announced an Xbox version. The game is a surfing adventure that launched in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and PC. Here is what the listing shows, what it leaves out, and why it matters for Xbox Series X|S owners.

A cloaked rider surfs across turquoise waves in a fantastical landscape, beneath a floating “Sword of the Sea” game card. What the Xbox listing shows

TwistedVoxel reports that the game has appeared on the Xbox Store with no announced Xbox version, and that its release plans are not officially confirmed. The listing itself is more specific than a vague mention of Xbox.

According to the Xbox Store page:

  • The game is marked "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S," and Xbox Series X|S is the only device under "Play with."
  • Fictions is listed as publisher and Giant Squid as developer.
  • The page lists 11 supported languages. It carries an ESRB rating of Everyone 10+ with a Fantasy Violence descriptor.
  • Capability labels are 4K Ultra HD, single player, 60 fps+, Series X|S optimization, Xbox achievements, Xbox presence and Xbox cloud saves.

Those labels are storefront tags. They don't say what resolution or frame-rate modes the game will offer. They also don't say whether Series X and Series S will get identical treatment.

What the listing doesn't say

The page I reviewed gave no release date, no price and no preorder status. It makes no Game Pass claim. It is a storefront entry, not proof the game can be bought or played on Xbox today.

Treat it as a strong sign of an Xbox version in preparation, not as a launch announcement. Store listings sometimes appear ahead of formal reveals, but that is general industry experience and not something this listing proves. Giant Squid's own site still lists the game as available on PS5, Steam and the Epic Games Store, with no Xbox mention.

Earlier signals about Xbox

This isn't the first hint. Windows Central reported that Giant Squid, replying to a fan on X, said "Yes, we're beginning to look into port options soon." The same report says the game skipped an Xbox release when it first launched. The studio also said it was focused on recouping development costs. Windows Central's post is about 189 days old, so it predates the store listing by roughly six months.

Taken together, that is a plausible chain: the studio said it was exploring ports, and now an Xbox page exists. The studio hasn't confirmed that the page is the port.

Publisher attribution differs by storefront

The Xbox page names Fictions as publisher. Steam lists Giant Squid as both developer and publisher, with an August 19, 2025 release date. I can't say from this evidence why the credits differ. They may reflect a publishing arrangement for the console version, but that is an inference and nothing here confirms it.

Game background

Sony's PlayStation Blog said the game would arrive on PlayStation Plus. Its first launch skipped Xbox. The August 2025 Game Catalog post confirmed it joined the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog on release day. That is PlayStation subscription history and says nothing about Xbox subscriptions.

The Xbox page describes the game this way:

  • You play the Wraith, who is resurrected in the Necropolis and rides a Hoversword.
  • The Hoversword moves like a snowboard, skateboard and surfboard.
  • You perform flips, spins and grabs on halfpipes, ramps and wall rides.
  • You restore water and sea life to the landscape.

Steam shows the game at 89% positive across 1,670 user reviews and a $29.99 price. The Steam page lists $29.99. That is Steam pricing only and shouldn't be assumed for Xbox.

PC players can check the Steam listing for the game's Windows requirements. It lists Windows 10 as the minimum OS and Windows 11 as the recommended one.

What Xbox owners can do now

  • Watch the official Xbox Store page for a date, price or preorder option. None existed in the material I reviewed.
  • Wishlist the page if you want a reminder when it changes.
  • Don't assume Game Pass. Nothing on the page indicates it.
  • Treat Xbox Play Anywhere, cross-save and cross-buy as unconfirmed. The page doesn't mention them. It only lists Xbox cloud saves.
  • Wait for Giant Squid or Fictions to confirm details before planning around a launch.

Bottom line

The Xbox listing is concrete: Series X|S is named, platform features are tagged, and a publisher is credited. It is also incomplete, with no date, price or subscription detail. Combined with Giant Squid's earlier remark about exploring ports, it makes an Xbox release look likely, but it is not a confirmed announcement.

Update: Additional details (October 25, 2026)

Output Lag reports that Microsoft’s store catalog lists an unconfirmed release time of October 29, 2026, at 16:00 UTC for Sword of the Sea on Xbox Series X|S. Neither Giant Squid, Fictions nor Microsoft has announced that date, and the Xbox Store page previously reviewed did not display a release date, price or preorder option.

That makes the date a useful lead rather than confirmation. Xbox owners should expect it could change or disappear until the developer, publisher or Xbox formally confirms availability.

Update: Xbox Store listing reportedly removed after October 29 date leak (October 26, 2026)

KitGuru reports that the Xbox Store product page for Sword of the Sea has since been taken down after it surfaced with an October 29 Xbox release date. If accurate, the removal suggests the listing may have appeared ahead of a planned announcement rather than remaining a long-term placeholder.

That does not make the October 29, 2026 release official. Giant Squid, Fictions and Xbox have not publicly confirmed the date, price, preorder availability or Game Pass plans. For Xbox players, the practical change is that the previously visible store page may no longer be available to wishlist or monitor until it returns.
