What the release window actually says
Owlcat Games' March 26, 2026 announcement said the game would arrive in "spring 2027". Store listings now carry a narrower label. Steam shows a planned release of Q2 2027. GOG's page also says the game will launch in Q2 2027. Those two listings are the most direct evidence for the narrower window.
A quarter is a range of months, not a date. CBR notes that the game is expected in the second quarter of 2027 and that no exact date has been set. G2A's guide likewise says an exact date has not been announced.
I found no official Owlcat statement describing this as a delay or a newly narrowed window. Treat it as "the current store listing," not a fresh developer pledge. "Spring 2027" and "Q2 2027" overlap but aren't identical. Some fan-wiki coverage notes the Steam listing says Q2 while the "spring" wording could be read more broadly. That is a reminder to wait for a dated announcement before planning around it.
Where it launches, and the Xbox angle
Xbox Wire is the clearest source on the Microsoft side. It says the game will launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Xbox Cloud. It will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title and available on day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox Wire names the Ultimate tier specifically. I haven't verified whether other Game Pass tiers will get it, so don't assume they will.
Owlcat's own announcement lists other platforms too:
- PC: Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.
- Consoles: Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
- Subscription: Xbox Game Pass from day one.
For Windows players, the Play Anywhere label matters. In Microsoft's usual arrangement, one purchase covers both the Xbox and Windows versions, with saves and progress carried over. I haven't verified the details for this particular title, so check the store page before buying.
PC requirements are provisional
Owlcat has published PC specs, but only for the beta. The company said the beta build is not fully optimized and that final requirements will come nearer launch. Treat them as a rough guide to the final game, not a promise.
| Spec | Minimum (beta) | Recommended (beta) |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
| CPU | Ryzen 5 5600 / Core i5-10400F | Ryzen 5 7600X / Core i5-12600K |
| GPU | RTX 3060 Mobile, GTX 1080, RX 6700M or RX 6600 | RTX 4070 or RX 7700 XT |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 30+ GB | 30+ GB |
The Windows 10 listing is a beta-era detail. Windows 10 support has ended for most consumers, so it is worth watching whether the final requirements change. I wouldn't assume either way.
What previews say, and how far to trust them
Previews have been mixed. CGMagOnline's Gamescom 2026 preview says the game releases in Q2 2027 and can be wishlisted on Steam. That preview is optimistic about the world, though it hopes some awkward bits get cleaned up. GameWatcher's preview says the Mass Effect influence was obvious, but that hands-on time showed the game has its own voice.
Softonic, which this story comes from, characterizes the game as an old-school cover shooter rather than a BioWare-style RPG. It also reports complaints about repetitive objectives, lighter writing and rough animation and voice work. I couldn't confirm those specific criticisms against the official material, and its description of a Phoebe-incident demo mission doesn't match Owlcat's beta. The official beta mission takes place at Pinkwater 4 station. Treat Softonic's preview impressions as one outlet's summary of the press response, not settled fact.
What's officially confirmed about the game
- Premise: a third-person action RPG. You play a Pinkwater Security mercenary with an identical twin, J. Xbox Wire's description has them witnessing a massacre on Eros and then hijacking an experimental ship.
- Combat: cover-focused, with abilities. Two companions join you in the field and others help remotely. You issue real-time commands.
- Beta weapons and gadgets: shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, pistols and SMGs, plus a zero-gravity grenade, a tactical scanner and drones. Some cover can be destroyed.
- Exploits: a system that lets companions take out groups of enemies in one go when you set up the opportunity.
- Locations: Ganymede, Ceres, Mars and Luna.
- Closed beta: it began April 22, 2026 on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S and PS5. Access is limited to Founders who bought the Miller's Pack or Collector's Edition. It is paid access, not a public demo. G2A's guide describes it as a limited slice of the campaign, not a full Early Access version.
Owlcat also warned that beta performance varies by hardware and doesn't reflect final quality. On consoles it recommends the Xbox Series X or PS5 for the smoothest experience.
What to do now
- Don't lock in a date. Q2 2027 means April through June, and that's all it means for now.
- Check the edition before paying. If you buy a Founder pack for beta access, you are paying for early access to one mission.
- Wait for final PC specs. The published numbers are beta-only. Owlcat has said final requirements will come closer to release.
- Read the Game Pass wording. Xbox Wire says Ultimate on day one, so confirm your tier nearer launch.
Bottom line
The concrete news is small: the listing now says Q2 2027, and it still comes with Game Pass Ultimate day-one access, Play Anywhere and Xbox on PC. The firm details are the platforms, the subscription plan and the beta. The ship date, the final PC requirements and how good the game is remain open.
