CD Projekt Red's first hotfix for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is out two days after launch, and its most important fix on Windows is a narrow one: Nvidia's DLSS can be turned on again in the Xbox Play Anywhere version of the game. The patch is labelled 5.00b. It went live on October 1, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox Play Anywhere build on PC. If your copy came from somewhere else, or if your problem is saving the game, read the details before you assume this patch helps you.

What Patch 5.00b actually changes

According to CD Projekt Red's official announcement, the patch makes three changes:

  • DLSS is available again in the Xbox Play Anywhere version of the game on PC.
  • Lighting adjustments, including fixes for some interiors that were too dark.
  • Other unspecified adjustments meant "to ensure parity with the PC version."

Gaming outlets copied those notes almost word for word. DSOGaming called it "a small update." Wccftech said that, coming so soon after launch, it is "unsurprisingly a minor one that addresses a small set of issues."

MP1st adds one detail missing from the official post. It reports that The Witcher 3 Remastered update 5.000.200 is out to bring the game to version 5.00b on PS5, Xbox Series X|S. So if your console shows 5.000.200 rather than "5.00b," it's the same update under a different number. CD Projekt Red's own post doesn't give that build number, a download size, or a rollout schedule by region.

Section summary: Patch 5.00b is a small, targeted hotfix. For PC players, its key fix is DLSS in the Xbox Play Anywhere build.

Why the DLSS bug mattered on Windows

DLSS was one of the main PC features of the remaster. CD Projekt Red's launch notes list support for Path Tracing and support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, together with Ray Reconstruction. The same notes promise AMD FSR 4, including Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2, supported on AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer graphics cards, with FSR 2 used instead on unsupported GPUs, plus Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency.

Path tracing is very demanding on a graphics card, and upscaling is usually what keeps it playable. Losing DLSS on an Nvidia system can be the difference between a smooth frame rate and an unplayable one. Video Games Chronicle summed up the problem: players on the Xbox Play Anywhere version on PC were unable to apply DLSS upscaling, which has now been fixed, and DLSS is now an option for players with Nvidia cards.

CD Projekt Red's support portal had already acknowledged the problem under the title "DLSS cannot be enabled on Xbox Play Anywhere" and said a hotfix was in progress. Patch 5.00b is that hotfix. The developer hasn't said what caused the bug, so any theory about the Xbox app, driver conflicts or a configuration error is a guess.

Section summary: DLSS is the upscaler Nvidia owners need to run the remaster's heaviest effects at good frame rates. The developer confirmed both the bug and the fix but not the cause.

Which PC version does this cover?

The remaster is sold on several PC storefronts, so this matters. It launched on September 29, 2026, on PC through Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and Battle.net, as well as PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. It's a free upgrade for existing owners within the same platform ecosystem. Xbox Play Anywhere support is new in the remaster; "Added support for Xbox Play Anywhere" appears in the launch notes.

CD Projekt Red's Patch 5.00b announcement lists only three targets: PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC Xbox Play Anywhere version. Video Games Chronicle also says the PC part applies specifically the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version. Switch 2 isn't mentioned.

Not every report agrees. DSOGaming wrote that Steam and GOG Galaxy will download this update the next time you launch their clients, and UpdateCrazy lists PC generally among the platforms. Neither claim matches CD Projekt Red's own list. Until the developer says otherwise, treat 5.00b as a fix for the Xbox build on PC. If you play on Steam or GOG and see a new download, check its notes rather than assuming it's this patch.

Outlets also read the "parity" line in different ways. DSOGaming took it as bringing the console version on par with the PC version. UpdateCrazy said it brings the Xbox Play Anywhere version closer to the PC release. CD Projekt Red hasn't said which builds are being aligned with which, or how.

Section summary: Officially, the PC part of this patch is for the Xbox Play Anywhere build only. Reports of it reaching Steam or GOG don't match the developer's platform list.

Why Xbox Play Anywhere is worth fixing

With Xbox Play Anywhere, one purchase covers both Xbox console and Windows PC, and your progress follows your Xbox account. Windows Central reviewer Jennifer Young liked moving between Xbox on PC on a ROG Ally handheld and her console without switching launchers. She also noted that cross-progression already worked before this through CD Projekt Red's own launcher. That's one reviewer's experience, not a promise about every account or save file.

The bug undercut the point of the feature. A player who picked the Xbox build for convenience got a weaker PC version than buyers on other stores, because the main Nvidia upscaler was missing. On a handheld PC, where power is limited, that hurts even more. Patch 5.00b restores the feature for that player.

The bug that isn't fixed: saving on PC

Patch 5.00b doesn't fix save problems. In the same announcement, CD Projekt Red says it is investigating issues reported through its Technical Support portal and is preparing a separate PC hotfix "to address the reported issue with saving the game." No release date was given, and the developer hasn't said what causes the bug or which PC versions are affected. Sportskeeda's coverage agrees: a separate patch is being prepped for the save game issues on PC.

Don't confuse this with save compatibility. CD Projekt Red's FAQ says saves from the original Witcher 3 work in the remaster, though the redesigned skill system resets your skill points. That covers loading old saves, not the current reports of saves failing on PC.

What PC players should do now

  1. Check which PC version you own. If you bought it through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store as an Xbox Play Anywhere title, Patch 5.00b is meant for you.
  2. Update the game and your graphics driver. CD Projekt Red's launch notes stress installing the latest Nvidia, AMD or Intel drivers. After updating to 5.00b, check the game's graphics settings to confirm DLSS can be selected.
  3. Don't expect a save fix yet. Keep playing carefully until CD Projekt Red ships the separate PC save hotfix. Making manual backups of your saves before long sessions is sensible general practice. The developer hasn't published a workaround.
  4. Report what you find. CD Projekt Red is asking players to send detailed reports through its Technical Support portal, which has categories for saves, performance, crashes and installation.

Analysis: a quick response, but a familiar pattern

CD Projekt Red deserves credit for speed. A hotfix for a problem limited to one PC storefront, out within two days of launch, is fast. The fix is also exactly the kind Windows players want: specific, confirmed by the developer, and limited to the build that needed it.

The less flattering reading is that this was preventable. DLSS was a headline PC feature, yet it didn't work in one version at launch. Players could also lose save progress, which is arguably worse for a 100-hour RPG than a missing upscaler. CD Projekt Red's launch record, from Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020 onward, makes a cautious approach reasonable.

As a general point, this release shows the downside of selling one game across many PC storefronts. Each store's build can break in its own way, so "the PC version" no longer means a single thing. When a patch note says "PC," check which store it means. Here, it means the Xbox Play Anywhere build. The save fix is still to come, and its date is unknown.
