Armored soldiers defend a stone fortress from a giant golem amid a glowing lava-filled volcanic landscape.
Mythwright's minimalist kingdom-defence game Thronefall launches on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on November 11, 2026. It arrives on Xbox Game Pass the same day, alongside Craaghelm, its first paid expansion, which also comes out that day on Steam and Nintendo Switch. The publisher announced the plans on September 24. For Xbox owners, this is the first chance to play a PC strategy hit that has been on Windows since 2023. For people who already own the game on PC, the news is simpler: eight new maps and a new mechanical enemy faction arrive on November 11, but they cost extra.

Thronefall Reaches Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass on November 11

Mythwright announced the platform expansion in a press release dated September 24, 2026. The release says Thronefall "rides onto PlayStation and XBOX for the very first time, launching simultaneously with the release of 'Craaghelm'". TrueAchievements reported the Xbox part separately, confirming that the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S on November 11, and it'll be available that same day via Xbox Game Pass.

Until now the game has been limited to a narrower set of platforms. Mythwright says it is available now on Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch and mobile, and will be available on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and XBOX Game Pass on November 11th. On PC, Thronefall entered Steam Early Access on August 2, 2023, and reached its full release on October 11, 2024, according to its Steam listing.

This is a Game Pass launch on day one of the console release, not a later addition to the catalogue. Subscribers can try it on the day it first reaches Xbox without buying it outright. The announcement doesn't say which Game Pass tiers include it, whether it's available through cloud streaming, or whether PC Game Pass is covered. Players with a particular subscription should check the Game Pass listing when it appears instead of assuming it's included in every tier.

Craaghelm Is Paid DLC, and Game Pass Doesn't Change That

The key point for subscribers is in one line of the release: Craaghelm will be available as a paid DLC expansion on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch on November 11th. (Thronefall base game required.) The expansion is sold on its own. Nothing in the announcement suggests Game Pass includes it, so if you play the base game through your subscription, expect to buy Craaghelm separately if you want the new content.

The wording has one inconsistency. The base game is listed for "XBOX Series X|S", but the Craaghelm sentence names only "Xbox Series X". This is most likely shorthand, since expansions normally ship on every platform the base game supports. Still, the release itself doesn't confirm that the DLC will be sold on Series S, so Series S owners should check the store listing on launch day.

Mythwright hasn't announced a price for Craaghelm, and there's no pre-order information yet. For reference, the Steam listing shows the base game at $12.99, which gives some idea of the price range, though Mythwright hasn't said anything about what the expansion will cost.

The PC side has one more detail. According to SteamDB, the third-party site that tracks Steam's backend records, the Thronefall – Craaghelm DLC entry (app ID 4822240) has a store release time of 16:00 UTC on November 11, 2026. It supports Windows and macOS and lists the same 14 languages as the base game. SteamDB first logged the entry on June 5, 2026, months before the announcement. The release time comes from a Steam backend record and Mythwright hasn't published it, so treat it as likely but not official. Console launch times haven't been announced.

What Craaghelm Adds: Eight Maps, Dwarven Units and Mechanical Enemies

Mythwright describes Craaghelm as a mountain campaign. The player is the last Dwarven King, going back into the mountain to take the ancestral halls back from mechanical enemies called Constructs. It adds eight themed maps, and the publisher says their terrain changes how you play: moving platforms, lava streams and blocked choke points. Mythwright hasn't given map names, how long the campaign is, or how the maps unlock.

Here is what the expansion adds, according to the publisher:

CategoryNew content announced
Allied unitsAxe Throwers (can hit ground and air targets), Automatons, Airships
Heroes and alliesThe Technician, Siege Engineer, Dwarven Spirit Warriors
Enemy unitsClockwork Oliphaunt, Loot Goblins, Leap Bots
WeaponsDragon's Roar (close combat), Twin Bastions (dual shields)
PerksSpiked walls that protect economic buildings; healing hot springs that restore health in battle
MutatorsVolcanic ash, boulders, natural disasters and others

Two items stand out for anyone who knows the base game. First, Axe Throwers are sold on their ability to hit both ground and air targets. The base game already has flying enemies, so an anti-air infantry option could change how you plan your defences. Second, Loot Goblins and Leap Bots are enemies that attack your economy instead of your walls. In Thronefall, the buildings that earn you gold each morning only pay out if they survive the night. An enemy type aimed at those buildings, plus a perk that puts spiked walls around them, suggests the expansion puts more pressure on protecting your income. That reading is based on how the listed features fit together, not on anyone having played the DLC.

All of these descriptions come from the publisher. No hands-on previews are available, and the announcement gives no numbers for unit stats, perk effects or how hard the mutators are.

Steam Sets the Baseline for Thronefall on Consoles

The Steam version is the best guide to what's coming to Xbox. The store page describes a single-player strategy game in which you build up a small kingdom during the day and defend it against waves of attackers at night. You also fight personally as the king. You lose if your Castle Center is destroyed.

The base game currently lists 10 maps, 9 unlockable weapons and more than 50 unlockable perks, and you can equip up to five perks at once. It also has optional mutators that make runs harder. Craaghelm adds to each of these categories. Its eight maps nearly match the size of the base game's map list, which fits Mythwright calling it a "major" expansion.

Mythwright says the game has sold more than two million units. That's the publisher's figure and no independent sales data confirms it. Wikipedia's entry, based on earlier reporting, says the game had sold just under 1 million copies over a year. The two figures don't necessarily conflict, since they measure different periods, but only the older one has an outside source. Player reception is easier to check. On Steam, 95 percent of 11,047 English-language user reviews are positive, which gives it an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating.

For Windows players who haven't bought the game yet, the Steam minimum requirements are low. You need 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-9600, 4GB of RAM, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 and 1GB of storage. The store page supports Windows and macOS. Neither Mythwright nor Steam has published separate PC requirements for Craaghelm.

The Xbox and PlayStation versions will be new ports, and the announcement doesn't say whether they'll match the Steam version on languages or settings. It also doesn't mention cross-save or progression sync between PC and console. If you have a long run history on Steam, assume you'll be starting over on Xbox unless Mythwright says otherwise.

What this means for you

What you should do depends on which platform you play on and whether you have Game Pass. If you're on Xbox with Game Pass, you can just wait until November 11 and try the base game at no extra cost, but expect to pay for Craaghelm. If you already own the game on Steam, the choice is only about the expansion, and you can make it once Mythwright announces a price. PlayStation 5 owners don't have a subscription option in the announcement, so they'll buy the game in the normal way.

  • Thronefall launches on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Game Pass on November 11, 2026. It's the game's first release on either console family.
  • Craaghelm is paid DLC that requires the base game, and nothing announced suggests Game Pass includes it.
  • The expansion also launches November 11 on Steam and Nintendo Switch. SteamDB's backend record points to 16:00 UTC on Steam.
  • Mythwright hasn't announced a price for Craaghelm, which Game Pass tiers include the base game, cloud availability, or cross-save between PC and console.
  • The release names only "Xbox Series X" for the DLC, so Series S owners should check the store listing when it goes live.
  • On Windows, the Steam version of the base game costs $12.99 and runs on modest hardware (Windows 10, GTX 970, 4GB of RAM).

November 11 brings the console launch and the expansion together on one day. Xbox players get the base game, and PC players get their first large batch of new content in two years. The main missing details are the expansion's price and which Game Pass tiers include the game, and both should appear on the store listings before launch. Until then, the plan is simple: Game Pass subscribers can try the game at no extra cost and decide later whether to buy Craaghelm, while existing PC players only have the expansion to decide on.
