What's confirmed
Xbox Game Pass is adding Thronefall on November 11, the same day the minimalist strategy game debuts on Xbox Series X/S. Xbox's own Game Pass announcement from November 3 lists it for Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Handheld and PC. It names three eligible plans: Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass.
"Handheld" has a narrow meaning here. Xbox's footnote says it marks games optimized for handheld play. The announcement doesn't name any devices, so it doesn't say which handhelds will run Thronefall.
Several outlets list only Ultimate and PC for the game, so they disagree with Xbox. PureXbox's roundup table, for example, shows Series X|S, PC, Cloud for platforms and Ultimate, PC for tiers. Xbox's wording is the primary source and includes Premium, so I'm going with that. Check the Game Pass app on launch day if your plan matters to you.
What "free" means
Thronefall is included in the subscription, not given away. Xbox doesn't say how long it will stay in the catalog. It also doesn't give a standalone Xbox price. If you don't subscribe to one of the three plans, "free" doesn't apply.
The announcement also doesn't map each platform to each tier. I'm not going to guess at that grid. Read the plan names and the platform list as two separate sets.
The game itself
Xbox describes Thronefall as a minimalist strategy game where you build a humble kingdom by day and defend it by night. You balance economy and defense by fortifying walls and recruiting troops. You can also charge into battle yourself against waves of attackers.
T3's author says they've sunk a year into the game, mostly on a Lenovo Legion Go S and Android handhelds. They put the main campaign at around eight hours, with plenty of optional objectives. Those are the author's own impressions, not Xbox's claims. Their play on those devices also says nothing about how the Xbox build will run on handhelds.
The same-day expansion and other platforms
Coverage from other outlets adds some context:
- Publisher Mythwright revealed Thronefall's first expansion, Craaghelm, on September 25, alongside the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 ports of the 2024 title.
- Craaghelm adds eight new maps, units, heroes, weapons and mutators.
- It is a premium DLC, and pricing hadn't been revealed.
- Whether Craaghelm is part of the Game Pass deal is not stated in the Xbox announcement. Treat the expansion as a separate purchase unless Xbox says otherwise.
Wikipedia says the full version released for Windows and Nintendo Switch on October 11, 2024. PC Game Pass members may therefore already own the game on Steam. This is my inference from the release history, not something any source states. The Game Pass listing would still give them a way to play without buying it again.
A correction to T3's Football Manager line
T3 implies the PC version of Football Manager arrives on November 10. Xbox lists two separate entries:
- Football Manager 27 (PC): available November 4 for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
- Football Manager 2027 Console: November 10, for Ultimate and PC Game Pass, on Cloud, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Xbox's list also shows a group of games leaving the library on November 15. The rest of November's additions come in a later announcement.
Bottom line
If you hold an Ultimate, Premium or PC Game Pass plan, Thronefall should show up on November 11. If you don't, you'll need a subscription or a separate purchase.
