What the Xbox/PC Sky Yoke is
The Sky Yoke is Thrustmaster's first move into general aviation, and the first time the TCA line has a yoke for PlayStation owners. It launched in two versions: one for PlayStation 5 and PC, and one for Xbox Series X|S and PC. This piece covers the Xbox/PC model reviewed by Movies Games and Tech. That review quotes a price of around £169.99. US retailer Sportsman's lists the PS5/PC variant at $199.99. Treat prices as regional and variable.
Thrustmaster's own pitch is an all-in-one setup: seven axes, plus a built-in throttle, trim wheel and rudder controls, so you don't have to buy several pieces of equipment. Here are the headline specs from Thrustmaster's product page:
- Travel and rotation: a 3.5-inch/9 cm push-pull range and up to 180° of rotation.
- Controls: 24 action buttons, an 8-way hat switch, a mini-stick and two analog triggers.
- Sensors: 16-bit resolution on all seven axes, using Thrustmaster's H.E.A.R.T. Hall-effect magnetic technology. Thrustmaster says the contactless design avoids drift caused by wear. That is a manufacturer claim, not a long-term durability result.
- Size and weight: 180 mm high, 344 mm wide and 440 mm deep, at 2,495 g.
- In the box: the yoke, a USB-C to USB-A cable, two mounting brackets, and a warranty certificate and instruction manual.
The Movies Games and Tech review adds some practical impressions. It says the unit stays put once clamped, even during hard pulls on the yoke. It also says the pitch axis feels smooth and progressive, and that the trim wheel beats tapping buttons. The review calls the unit a "fairly big bit of kit", so check your desk space before ordering. These are one reviewer's subjective impressions, not measurements. The review gives no test conditions and doesn't describe testing on a console.
The "plug and play" caveat for PC owners
Thrustmaster's retail copy is upbeat. It says that in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Infinite Flight, the yoke is automatically recognized with preconfigured controls. The Movies Games and Tech review says much the same about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Thrustmaster's own support page for the product adds more PC detail.
- Driver package: The support page lists a driver package, 2026_TFHT_3, with Windows 10 and 11 as the system requirement. Its release notes say the package added support for the Xbox/PC Sky Yoke.
- Mapping profiles: The same page lists suggested mappings for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PC and Xbox. It also lists a PC mapping for X-Plane. It links a knowledge-base article on installing a mapping profile in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The product page says the preconfigured controls are free in the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Marketplace.
- Independent PC test: Magenta Debrief, in a review published 27 October 2026, tested the Xbox version in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on a Windows PC. Its reviewer said the yoke doesn't work out of the box on PC. They needed the driver package first, then a free control profile from the Marketplace before any axis responded. The reviewer also noted the driver installer asked for camera access.
The sources disagree here, or at least emphasize different things. Thrustmaster's marketing says "plug and play". Its support page and one independent PC reviewer describe extra steps. Don't assume the profile step applies to every setup. The Magenta Debrief tester did not try an Xbox console.
PC setup steps from Thrustmaster's support page
Thrustmaster's installation notes for the driver package say the following:
- Don't connect the yoke early. Leave it unplugged until the installer prompts you.
- Leave Windows panes alone. Don't click in any Windows-specific panes that appear during the update.
- Run the installer. If an earlier driver package is already installed, the first run uninstalls it. You then run it again to install the new version. This is the one most likely to catch people out.
- Restart your PC. Do this once setup finishes.
- Open the Control Panel. Use the Thrustmaster Control Panel entry from the Start menu to check that the controller appears in the Game Controllers dialog.
- Install the mapping. Follow Thrustmaster's knowledge-base article to add the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 mapping profile.
Magenta Debrief also says the yoke only entered the driver package in its latest release. An older installed version would therefore give you nothing.
The same support page also notes that cloud gaming and streaming services don't support Thrustmaster joysticks. Examples it lists include Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Remote Play. The game has to be installed locally on a Windows 10/11 PC or on the console. A few older Thrustmaster sticks are listed as exceptions for NVIDIA GeForce NOW, but the Sky Yoke isn't among them.
Dual Control and expansion
Thrustmaster says two yokes can connect to one Xbox or PC. They share one aircraft, with control handed over at the press of a button. MSFS Addons reports that the usual problem with two USB controllers on one PC is that one cancels the other. Its review says the answer is to chain one yoke to the other, then connect that one to the PC.
Magenta Debrief did not test Dual Control, as it had only one yoke. It says Thrustmaster publishes little on how the handover works. It also asks whether the second yoke physically moves when the first is flown, which would decide whether this is a training feature or a co-op one. The product material says nothing about force feedback or motorized motion. Don't assume the yokes mirror each other physically.
Expansion options:
- Rudder pedals: Thrustmaster lists compatibility with its TFRP pedals, sold separately.
- Sky Quadrant: The Movies Games and Tech review also mentions the TCA Sky Quadrant. Thrustmaster's shop copy describes it as a three-axis add-on. MSFS Addons reports that Thrustmaster says the upcoming Sky Quadrant and the existing pedals can connect through the yoke, so only one USB cable runs to the PC or console. The word "upcoming" there is worth noting if you're planning around it.
Where the independent verdicts diverge
Magenta Debrief scored the yoke 3.4 out of 5 and praised its value. It also criticised a stiff pitch axis with no documented way to adjust it, and a digital trim wheel that did little on a Cessna 172. It found the rocker switches very light and the unit lacking backlighting. The review also found that the clamp mount is quick and solid. It says the top mounting holes match the Honeycomb Alpha's M4 bracket pattern. That is the reviewer's own hands-on finding, and Thrustmaster doesn't document it.
MSFS Addons' hands-on review describes the build as entirely plastic with a simple spring-centering system. It calls the product a full-package controller at a reasonable price. It also reports that the Xbox/PC version showed as in stock in Thrustmaster's US store on 1 November, while the PS5/PC version didn't. Stock levels move, so check before ordering.
Reviewers agree on the broad shape of the product. It's a cheap, complete, desk-friendly entry point to general-aviation flying. They differ on how it feels and on how much setup it needs on a PC.
Who should consider it
- Newcomers on Windows or Xbox: It's a one-box route to yoke, throttle, trim and rudder.
- Small-desk flyers: The clamp mount and the 2.5 kg weight help, though the footprint is large.
- Console-only owners: Be careful with the Xbox-versus-PlayStation choice. Magenta Debrief says the two versions share a USB product ID and differ by a firmware revision. Buy the version that matches your console. Thrustmaster's Xbox/PC product page lists no PlayStation compatibility.
Skip it if you already own a good yoke and pedals, want an adjustable or light pitch axis, or fly at night and want backlighting. If you need a proven two-pilot training rig today, wait until Dual Control has been tested and documented.
Bottom line
The TCA Sky Yoke Xbox/PC edition is a well-specified, cheap all-in-one flight controller. On a PC, plan for the Windows driver package and the Marketplace mapping profile, even though the marketing implies you can just plug it in and take off.
