About this tag
The Copilot key is a dedicated hardware key introduced on Windows 11 PCs to launch Microsoft's Copilot AI assistant. However, its placement often replaced the Right Ctrl or Context Menu key, disrupting keyboard shortcuts, remote desktop workflows, developer tools, and accessibility utilities for many users. In response to sustained backlash, Microsoft has confirmed a future Windows 11 update will allow users to remap the Copilot key to Right Ctrl or the Context Menu key through native Settings, or even disable it entirely. This change is seen as a concession that the key's forced presence conflicted with real-world habits and muscle memory, even as Microsoft continues to include the key on new systems.

Remap the Copilot Key in Windows 11: Restore Right Ctrl or Create a Screenshot Shortcut

The Copilot key is one of the stranger compromises in recent laptop design. On many laptops it sits where a useful key used to be, and if you don't use Copilot much, it mostly gets pressed by accident. Kareem Anderson at Windows Latest wrote a guide this week on turning the key into something...
