default port
About this tag
The tag 'default port' on WindowsForum.com covers discussions about default port assignments in Windows, including MIDI output ports and RDP listening ports. Users seek to change the default MIDI port from the MS GS Wavetable Synth to another device in Windows 7, encountering registry tweaks that may not work. Security topics also appear, such as the Morto worm exploiting the default RDP port 3389, with advice to change the default listening port and use strong passwords to mitigate brute-force attacks. These threads highlight practical challenges and security considerations around default port configurations in Windows environments.
I have a very old midi sequencer program that I was just yesterday finally able to get working in Win 7 HP 64. The output ports available to use are:
A MS GS Wavetable synth (default)
B Delta AP Midi
Obviously I do not want to use the wavetable synth at all. In XP I could assign a default...

Looks like a brand new Worm called Morto is using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) and port 3389 (default listening port) as an attack vector to infect some machines and subsequently using some type of brute force password guessing mechanism to further compromise these computers.
A good reason why...
