About this tag
Discussions on WindowsForum.com about DX9 focus on compatibility and installation alongside newer DirectX versions like DX10 and DX11. Users report that many older games and applications require DX9 runtime files even on systems with DX11, as newer DirectX versions do not include all DX9 components. Common issues include missing d3dx9_*.dll files, games defaulting to DX9 mode, and the need to install DX9 separately to resolve errors. Topics also cover artifacting in DX9 screensavers, benchmarking software with DX9 tests, and confusion about whether DX9 can coexist with DX11. The tag reflects ongoing troubleshooting for backward compatibility in Windows gaming.
Since Kemical's comments about the DX 12 situation, I have been doing some checking.
I realized Borderlands 2 is playing as DX 9 and 32 bit, which is its normal configuration. But I downloaded Borderlands Pre-Sequel which is a DX 10 version and it is still playing in DX 9 (32 bit).

OK, I'm running Win7 7201 64-bit. I installed COD4 1.7 last night and when asked about installing DX9 I selected "No" since my Win7 has DX11 installed.
When I try and start either single or multi-player I get an error dialog that reads:
"The program can't start because d3dx9_34.dll is...
Hey all,
Just wondering, is anyone having issues with artifacting on Direct3D stuff, like WMP visualizations and DX9 screensavers? I have a GeForce 6200. This is what I'm getting: Link Removed due to 404 Error
This recently upgraded benchmarking software caught my eye as it's got tests for Dx10.1.
So if you have a Dx10.1 capable card check it out (it also contains tests for Dx10 and Dx9). I have to say the graphics are awesome too :
