About this tag
The microsoft tools tag on WindowsForum.com collects discussion of utilities and developer-facing software connected to Microsoft, with a focus on how they are licensed, distributed, and used on Windows. Tagged content examines PowerToys, WinGet, Visual Studio Code, Windows Terminal, and ZoomIt, questioning which of these are genuinely open source and which are proprietary builds or have more complicated histories. The recurring theme is practical scrutiny of Microsoft tooling: what the license actually says, how the projects are maintained, and what Windows users and developers should know before adopting them.
