About this tag
The open dialog, also known as the open/save file dialog in Windows, is a common point of frustration for users who want consistent behavior across applications. Discussions on WindowsForum.com cover issues like unwanted grouping by time in Windows 11, customizing the navigation pane via registry edits, and folders not appearing in the dialog even though they show in File Explorer. Users also seek ways to remember frequently used folders and to set a default sort order, such as by date, that persists across programs like Excel. These topics highlight the need for better control and customization of the open dialog to match individual workflow preferences.
