My machine goes out of range right after the Windows logo anytime I try to install Windows 8.1. Pls help.

I am running Windows 7 on a dell Inspiron 1520 with a Nvidia card. The notebook's monitor is working perfectly. I've added a new Asus VH222 but Windows 7 doesn't appear to see it, and the monitor gives me an "Our of Range" error message when I attempt to transfer the signal with Fn+F8. Any ideas?
