In Windows 10 we added a multiple new sensor features, innovations and changes. In my previous blog, I talked about the new contextual sensing features like activity sensors, pedometers, barometer and proximity sensors. In this...
I have a networking problem which has persisted for many weeks no matter what I try to fix it. The basic setup has been running for 7 years without this issue.
The network is a Flight Simulator with a main Windows 7 PC driving the Flight Sim software and also acting as a server for another four...

When reading some config recommendations always two different hardware features are mentioned:
AHCI and ACPI
What is the difference?
Both seem to be power-saving-related.
Is one for hard disks and the other for CPU only?
Is one in BIOS-only configurable the other from WinOS configurable?

So recently i've had no issues with my monitor or adapter cable, which is what i think and hope is the problem. Everything worked fine, but one day i shut down my PC, and in the morning, tried starting it up. My tower turned on as usual, i could hear the fan running and the lights come on, but...

I often record programmes from on-line radio but they are marred with constant audio noises in the background consisting of pops, clicks crackles and whistles. It seems to be worse when there's processor and network activity (like when recording) and appears to change when the display changes...
As you know Win 7 offers options (especially for notebooks) to dim the display after e.g. 15minutes
or turn it completely off after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Obviously the user can save (rechargable) power with that.
But I am particularly interested in possible disadvantages for the hardware...
I have a number of different drives that I use for different purposes but I only use two of them frequently.
I would like for the others to enter sleep mode when not in use, but never my main two.
Is there any way to edit power saving settings for individual drives?
As long as the power cable is plugged in in my notebook the brightness of my display is fine.
But when I plug it out and use the battery the brightness becomes suddenly darker.
Why?
How can I prevent this switch-to-dark-screen?
I found no corresponding option in the power plans

Hi, everyone reading this!
I've been having some problems with my computer's power saving mode for a long time now. Everytime I put my computer in power saving mode and when later trying to start it up has always resulted in a BSOD. Somehow that problem has been solved mysteriously some months...
Hi
I have Windows 7 SP1 64-bit and I configured an Administrators account.
Now, having to create 5 Users accounts,I would like to create them using the same settings (of the desktop, the Internet Options, the power saving options, the WMP options, ...) of the account already configured. How...
My PC used to be on 24/7 until I decided that I wasting power however now it seems to want to close down at 23:15 unless it is actually working on something - This is annoying me and I would like to know what is causing this shutdown - does anyone have an explanation?
I have a Samsung TFT monitor with resolution 1920x1080 which is connected by HDMI cable.
Assume I open a couple of windows (IntExp, WinExplorer, notepad,...).
Now (e.g.late in the evening) I turn off manually physically (only) the TFT monitor to save power but let the computer continue run...
A few months ago the sleep mode on my computer became dysfunctional. Before, I used to put it into sleep mode (it is a desktop) and then move the mouse, and it would power up to exactly how I left it. Now if I put it in sleep mode, it appears to power up but nothing is shown on the screen. All...

I've been having this trouble on my laptop where the power setting just changes at will. I usually put it at power saving when i use it to write but it just takes 10-20 seconds before it by itself changes to High performance. Its been doing this all day today, does anyone know why it would be...
Hello,
I am new to the forum. I am using Windows 7 64bit and have recently been getting the BSOD. It only happens when the machine is left for say 20 minutes. If I am using the machine it never happens! If I go for a cup of tea and come back 20 minutes later the BSOD has appeared.
I have...
Good Afternoon, All-Knowing Win-7 Gurus;
It seems as I have read a bazillion (give or take) threads regarding the Black Screen of Doom. To this point, none of the solutions has helped my (innumerable) issues. I am experiencing this screen and all of it's glory. It occurs as my beloved...

Good day mighty experts,
I do have a question regarding the way Windows 7 handles network shares. I have a few NAS servers on my network (mapped to local drives on my pc), some of which using power saving techniques. As a result, they stop their hard drives after a few minutes idle time. This...

So i don't exactly know if this is the right forum to post this but does disabling a device actually save energy? For example, i have two CD-ROM players, if i disable one of them do i actually have any advantege in doing so?
