About this tag
Rodney Alcala, a convicted serial killer, gained notoriety for appearing as a winning bachelor on the 1978 game show 'The Dating Game.' Fellow contestant Jed Mills recalled Alcala as creepy. Alcala was found guilty of murdering four women and a child, and he acted as his own attorney during the penalty phase of his trial in Santa Ana, California, hoping to persuade the jury to spare his life. His crimes date back to the late 1970s, and at the time of his game show appearance, his psychopathic nature was unknown.
(CNN) -- Before he was a convicted serial killer, Rodney Alcala was a winning bachelor on "The Dating Game."
"Oh yeah, I remember it quite clearly," said Jed Mills, the game-show contestant who sat next to Alcala in 1978. "He was creepy. Definitely creepy."
