    Windows 7 How do i extend to a second monitor?

    I have a karaoke program that allows me to work one screen on my laptop and have the words scrolling on the external monitor. I have hooked it up but can not get it to recognize the external monitor. What do i need to do?? Any help is greatly appreciated.
