About this tag
Telnet is a legacy network protocol that enables remote terminal access to devices, but its lack of encryption makes it a significant security risk. On WindowsForum.com, discussions cover telnet vulnerabilities, including a critical zero-click flaw in the Microsoft Telnet Client that can silently capture credentials, as well as telnet-related weaknesses in industrial systems like Cognex In-Sight cameras and Guralp seismic devices. Users also explore practical uses, such as running ASCII Star Wars via telnet in Windows 11, scripting telnet checks for monitoring, and the inability to fully uninstall telnet components in Windows 7. Security advisories highlight telnet's role in broader attack vectors, emphasizing the need for mitigation or replacement with secure alternatives.
