unknown publisher
About this tag
The 'unknown publisher' tag on WindowsForum.com covers discussions about Windows security prompts that appear when software lacks a verified digital signature. Users report encountering 'Publisher Unknown' warnings in User Account Control (UAC) on Windows 7, which can block legacy 32-bit applications, ActiveX controls for DVR access, and downloads from reputable publishers like iTunes. The tag includes troubleshooting steps such as adjusting Internet Explorer security settings, editing the registry on Windows 7 Home Premium (which lacks Group Policy), and understanding why legitimate software may trigger the warning. These threads focus on practical solutions for bypassing or managing unknown publisher blocks while maintaining system security.
