About this tag
Windows 11 26H2 is Microsoft's next annual feature update for Windows 11, confirmed as a quality-focused release rather than a new operating system. It shares the 25H2 servicing branch and will be activated via an enablement package, making deployment low-risk for current users. Key changes include restored taskbar placement options, deeper Start menu controls, local-first search, and improved recovery features. For IT, notable shifts include settings backup enabled by default on eligible Entra-joined devices, with restore remaining admin-controlled. Insider builds in the Experimental channel have addressed update error 0xc0000409 and other refinements. The update extends the support clock and follows a phased rollout, with general availability expected in the second half of 2026.
