Intel Core i9-11900K Review, The Worst Flagship Intel CPU... Maybe Ever! In a recent review titled "Intel Core i9-11900K Review, The Worst Flagship Intel CPU... Maybe Ever!", Hardware Unboxed delves deep into Intel's latest processor offering, the Core i9-11900K. This review critiques the new flagship CPU, highlighting its shortcomings compared to its predecessors and competitors, particularly AMD's Ryzen series.
Overview of the Core i9-11900K
The Intel Core i9-11900K is introduced as an 8-core, 16-thread CPU, featuring a 16MB L3 cache and a TDP of 125W. While it carries a list price of $540, which is higher than its predecessor, the 10-core i9-10900K, the review argues that it fails to justify this price point due to its reduced core count and overall performance. The reviewer expresses skepticism about the existence of the 11900K, suggesting it might merely be a strategic move to capitalize on Intel's loyal fanbase amidst tough competition from AMD, particularly the Ryzen 9 5900X.Performance Analysis
- Productivity Benchmarks:
- The review details a series of tests where the 11900K is compared to both the 10900K and the Ryzen 5900X. In multi-core performance scenarios, the i9-11900K lags behind its predecessor while being significantly outperformed by the Ryzen model, sometimes by as much as 42%.
- Single-core benchmarks showed slight improvements over the 10900K but still placed the 11900K below the Ryzen 5900X.
- Gaming Performance:
- When evaluating gaming benchmarks, the core i9-11900K exhibits marginal improvements in few titles compared to the 10900K, making it difficult to claim any substantial advancement.
- The overall conclusion for gamers is disheartening; for a similar price, competitors like the Ryzen 5900X offer much better performance while consuming less power.
Conclusion and Future Outlook
Ultimately, the review encapsulates a deep-seated frustration with Intel's pricing strategy and product lineup. The reviewer suggests that even a price cut for the 11900K might be necessary for it to be seen as a viable option, recommending a target price of around $400-$420 to align better with competitor offerings. The upcoming 12th generation processors are anticipated to provide a noteworthy improvement over the 11th generation, leaving potential buyers to reconsider their options.
