Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Review, No One Asked For This The video titled "Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Review, No One Asked For This" by Hardware Unboxed dives deep into the performance and positioning of the RTX 3070 Ti within Nvidia's lineup, especially after the disappointing reception of the RTX 3080 Ti. The reviewer outlines several critical aspects:
Overview of Performance
- Context of its Release: Following the launch of the RTX 3080 Ti, which received overwhelmingly negative feedback due to its inflated price compared to performance, the 3070 Ti is presented as a more reasonable alternative, albeit still somewhat underwhelming.
- Specifications and Pricing: The RTX 3070 Ti is priced at $600, which is $100 more than the RTX 3070. It offers a slight performance boost with only a small increase in core count, yet it's substantially cheaper than the more powerful RTX 3080.
- Benchmark Analysis: The reviewer conducted benchmarks across twelve games at 1440p and 4K, revealing mixed results:
- The overall performance of the RTX 3070 Ti consistently fell short compared to the Radeon RX 6800, particularly in titles like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watchdogs: Legion.
- At 1440p, it was about 8% slower on average than the RX 6800 and showed a relatively minimal performance increase over its predecessor, the RTX 3070.
- Memory and Bandwidth: While the memory bandwidth saw a 36% improvement due to faster GDDR6X memory, it still had the same 8GB capacity as the previous models, which limited its effectiveness in high-demand scenarios.
- Power Consumption: The power requirements for the RTX 3070 Ti were noted to be significantly higher than its competitors, which could be a consideration for those concerned about efficiency.
Conclusion
Ultimately, the RTX 3070 Ti is described as a minor upgrade over the RTX 3070 and not compelling enough to attract gamers seeking either performance or value. This sentiment contrasts with the landscape of graphics cards where AMD's offerings may deliver better performance for lower prices due to higher memory capacities and competitive pricing strategies. The reviewer sums up that while the 3070 Ti does present some technological improvements, it might not provide enough "bang for your buck" to be a worthy investment, especially for gamers considering the RX 6800 and its equivalents. The video wraps with an invitation for viewers to share their thoughts on the comparative performance of Nvidia and AMD GPUs as well as insights into the second-hand market for older GPUs, which remain attractive options in the current landscape.
