Ukraine Invasion: Exploring the Risks at Europe's Largest Nuclear Power Plant In a recent Sky News report, journalist Alex Rossi traveled to Zaporizhzhia, where Europe's largest nuclear power plant has come under severe bombardment by Russian troops. The situation is alarming, not just for Ukraine but for the broader European landscape, highlighting urgent concerns around nuclear safety amid escalating military conflicts.
Key Insights
- Military Control: The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is currently under Russian military control. Significant fighting continues around the facility, raising fears of a nuclear disaster. Major Valentin Yermalenko pointed out the intensity of the conflict near these reactors.
- Safety Concerns: As members of the press were escorted to a safe viewing distance, warnings of incoming fire were issued. The urgency of maintaining safety protocols underscored the precariousness of the situation. The military escort kept reporters low to minimize risk from ongoing fighting.
- Impact on Infrastructure: CCTV footage captured the chaos as Russian tanks advanced towards strategic locations, shedding light on the military strategy being employed.
